Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Great Phone for the Most Part.......2007-11-05

I just bought this phone yesterday for use on AT&T service and it is terrific. I really like the design. The aluminum finish gives it a nice profesional looking design. It also has a very nice screen. I really like how you can start the music player wtihout opening phone and how you can take self-portrait photos using the screen. The phone is also nice and thin.
The phone looks very nice when you open it up. There is a large screen inside that is great for the numerous video features. However, one design complaint is definitely the keypad. I am a frequent texter, and the keys are really cramped together and totally flat so it is really hard to text quickly.
This phone has great features! It even supports the new cellular video service where you can watch streaming news and sports clips wherever you are. I have to admit that I was a little skeptical being that I do not live in a 3G area. However, clips only took about 10 seconds to load which is incredibly fast for edge. This phone is also great for music. There is a pretty funky scroll pad on the front, which acts as music controls when the phone is closed. This is better than that of the samsung sync, another at&t music phone, because you can feel it when you touch the pad because it is tactile, while with the sync the buttons are the same material as the phone itself.
Besides the keypad, I have a few minor complaints. I wish that lg would use a standard 3.5 mm or even 2.5 mm headset jack instead of their own special one. If you really want to listen to music on this as I do, you have to go out and spend money on additional headphones while normally you have a regular pair lying around anyway. Also, lg should have used a mini-usb jack to connect to your computer so that you could just use a cord that probably came with your digital camera or something like that.
All in all, the lg trax is a great phone. Nothing feature or performance wise is bad with this phone. There are simply a few design issues to clear up, most of which do not affect the performance of the phone. (except the keyboard) If you are looking for a new at&t phone with all the features and you do not want a razr like everyone else has, I would go with the lg trax.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent phone.......2007-10-14

I purchased this phone, from AT&T because it was sleek and professional looking. After bringing it home and playing with its features, I am quite pleased with my purchase. This LG has a far more logical interface than the Motorola Razr, and has a superior response time, as well. The music player on it is easy to operate, but no replacement by any means for a standalone MP3 player. The voice quality is exceptional, compared to the Razr. It's new to me but so far I am getting really good battery life. The brushed aluminum front gives it a unique and attractive exterior, the screen size is average, which I prefer as it prevents battery drain. The keypad size is nice, I can text without hitting surrounding buttons on accident. I recommend this phone, to anyone who needs a professional looking device, with fun extras, like internet, but doesn't need the functions of a PDA

5 out of 5 stars Great Features and Great Price.......2007-09-29

I just purchased this phone with a new contract and I'm glad I did. The features available on the Trax are great. Not to mention call quality is really good. I live where towers can be few and far between and haven't run into any problems yet. Everything is really easy to use as well. With a lot of other phones a software pack and usb adapter are needed just to use the MP3 function. With the trax all you do is drag and drop your MP3's the phone itself with the mini sd inserted in the phone. A pc operating on Windows will pick up your phone right away without any hassle of installing it. And with the unlimited media package from the provider you have tons of news, sports, and music videos right in your hands. And without some of the features being locked out, like some providers like to do, you can personalize your phone with ringtones from your music selection(with a little editing to shorten the length anything under a minute should do fine), and assign pictures or gifs for wallpaper. You can even make your own gifs with the phone by using the pictures you put on it.

The phone itself is almost the perfect size, and with just enough weight. With smaller phones the keys can be a pain to use, and one of my only complaints about this phone is that the keys are kind of hard to tell apart when not looking directly at them. A little practice may be needed to dial without looking down. My only other complaint is not being able to choose the folder you want to play from while using the MP3 player while the phone is closed.

LG CU500 Phone (AT&T)

Amazon.com Product Description

If you're looking for superior multimedia capability wherever you go, look no further than the LG CU500, one of Cingular's first 3G flip phones. This quad-band world phone with domestic UMTS and HSDPA capabilities will allow you to download data at speeds only dreamed of before. In fact, because the CU500 supports the HSDPA protocol for high-speed data transfer, you'll be able to stream TV, video, and more, straight to the CU500.

Take advantage of Cingular's 3G data network with the CU500. See a phone demonstration.
Other key features include support for a Bluetooth stereo headset, an advanced MP3 player with music ID, and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Packaged in a stylish black clamshell design, the CU500 phone is the ultimate multimedia device, and the perfect complement to Cingular wireless service.

Design
The CU500 design takes the standard clamshell form factor to the next level with its impressive media and data capabilities while maintaining a stylish and cool exterior. A large 176 x 220 color display with over 65,000 colors dominates the inside of the top cover. The outside cover of the handset sports a supplementary 96 x 96 full-color display that can display pictures, time, call information, battery and signal strength, and more. Convenient music player control buttons reside just below the external screen, and the 1.3 megapixel camera lens is housed above this display while most of the phone's features and on-screen menus are controlled by a five-way center button on the handset's backlit control pad. A USB data port is provided, as is a microSD/TransFlash memory card slot. Lastly, the internal antenna is safely tucked away, keeping the phone's design compact and portable.

Calling Features
The CU500's internal phone book can hold up to 500 contacts while the phone's picture ID system allows you to assign pictures to your most common callers. It also supports 72-chord polyphonic ringtones, and comes stock with 10 unique ringtones built right into the unit, while more ringtones can be downloaded from Cingular Wireless' MEdia Net service. For times when you want to be discreet, there's a vibrating alert, and a built-in full-duplex speakerphone makes it easy to talk without having the phone to your ear. Meanwhile, voice activated dialing makes calling your friends, family, and associates as easy as saying their names.

Because the CU500 is Bluetooth enabled, wireless headsets can be configured with the phone for total handsfree operation.

Enjoy Cingular Video, right on your handset.
Messaging, Internet and Tools
The CU500 is a messaging and wireless Internet powerhouse. With UMTS and HSDPA support built right into the phone, you'll be streaming and downloading at speeds so fast your head will spin. Used in combination with one of Cingular's MEdia Max plans that supports Cingular Video (additional Cingular charges apply), the CU500 will allow you to play high-quality news clips, sports clips, weather clips, and more--right on your phone. And with Cingular's exclusive partnership with HBO Mobile and HBO Family Mobile, you'll never be at a loss for something good to watch.

Into sending and receiving pictures, text, graphics, and sound and video via messages? When used in combination with the phone's built-in still and video cameras, MMS opens up a whole new world of messaging fun. Instant messaging is also supported via AOL Instant Messenger, MSN Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, and ICQ (Cingular messaging charges apply). There's also a built-in web browser for MEdia Net downloads and mobile web browsing. Cingular's MEdia Net service lets you do more than just stream videos--it lets you receive and send emails, read news headlines, get weather updates, download games and ringtones, and more. T9 text entry, which is a technology that makes it easier for people to enter words and text on handsets, is built into the unit--a plus for mobile email and text messaging users.

Getting on the Internet is easy with the CU500. When used with a Cingular data plan and the phone's Bluetooth or USB data capability, the phone can be used as a wireless modem for laptops and PDAs.

Let the music play...
A number of handy software tools are bundled with the CU500 including a voice memo recorder, a calculator with a unit conversion feature, a calendar and an alarm clock. Use the phone's Bluetooth capability to set up a wireless link with a Bluetooth accessory or connect to a computer or hand-held device to exchange and synchronize data. The unit also supports USB mass storage, meaning you can use your phone as a portable hard drive--making for easy file transfer between phone and PC. The CU500 is also FOTA capable, meaning you can upgrade firmware over the air without ever having to plug your phone into anything.

Imaging and Entertainment
With features like a dual speaker set for 3D sound, and stereo Bluetooth headphone capability, the CU500 shines in the entertainment department. When the feeling strikes you, jam out to your favorite music on the unit's advanced mp3 player, and because the CU500 sports a memory card slot, you can load up all your favorite music and bring it with you (memory cards sold separately). And because the phone supports MobiTV and MobiRadio, in addition to streaming video and TV, you can listen to your favorite radio station via the supported digital radio service--great for times when you feel like listening to new music (additional Cingular charges apply).

The phone's 1.3 megapixel camera features a 4x zoom, image quality options, and an auto-timer so you can be in your pictures, too. Capture stills and then send them to your friends via MMS messaging or email, or to your PC via USB or Bluetooth. The CU500 also supports custom graphics for wallpapers so you can dress up the phone to suit your fancy.

Support for Java 2.0 gaming is built into the phone and games are available for download via the Cingular MEdia Net service. The CU500 also sports an airplane mode feature, which allows you to safely use the non-wireless functions of a phone (such as music, games or organizer functions) on an airplane during flight.

UMTS Wireless Broadband Coverage

Warning: If you want to enjoy the full audio and video capabilities of your UMTS phone, please select a MEdia Max service plan option during checkout. If you do not sign up for a MEdia Max service plan option, you will be paying per KB when you use the over-the-air UMTS audio and video features on your phone (upwards of $10 per minute).

Vital Statistics
The LG CU500 weighs 3.70 ounces and measures 3.8 x 1.95 x 0.76 inches. Its lithium-ion battery is rated at up to 5 hours of digital talk time, and up to 240 hours of digital standby time. It features UMTS with HSDPA capability, and runs on the 850/900/1800/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS/EDGE and 850/1900 WCDMA frequencies. The phone comes with a one year limited warranty.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars One year later and I have severe buyers remorse.......2007-12-20

I just wanted to share my opinion of this phone with anyone who is currently looking for a phone with these type of capabilities. I'll be honest, I thought I did my homework when I first purchased the phone approx. one year ago...I read the negative reviews, but most of the reviews were positive, so I opted to purchase this phone.

One year later...it's the negative aspects of the phone that is the most disturbing. YAY! The phone plays music...most do nowadays. YAY! The phone takes excellent pictures...I still take my digital camera with me on vacation...YAY! Internet access is wicked fast...The phone does these things very well...YAY for LG.

But really...the main reason anyone purchases a phone is make and receive PHONE CALLS, not take pictures, videos, etc, etc, etc. This is where the most negative elements of the phone come up.

Negative aspect #1: The ring should be one constant volume. This crescendo is driving me batty...too soft at first and too loud at the end. I'm constantly missing calls.

Negative aspect #2: The speaker volume should be one constant volume during telephone calls. Each sentence starts out soft and then gains volume...what purpose does that serve? Why in the world is it necessary to have my callers repeat the first few words of each sentence?

Major negative aspect #3: NO ONE EVER UNDERSTANDS ME...even if I hear my callers crystal clear. This is my only phone and I am constantly asked "Do you have another phone you can call me from?". AT&T blames it on the phone. For once I agree with AT&T, it is not the network. It is the phone.

Major negative aspect #4: When my callers can hear me...they all say that it sounds like I'm breathing extremely heavy into the phone. It's embarrassing. I had a telephone interview where the girl on the other end could barely stop laughing. I tried explaining that it was just the phone, but I knew she was rolling her eyes at me. Thankfully, using the headset solves this problem. But now I have to plug in the headset for most of my calls...in addition, to running to get the phone because I didn't hear it at first (see negative aspect #1). Ya...you can say I've missed a lot of phone calls with this phone.

Negative aspect #5: The phone came with Cingular advertisements all over the place. Now it's AT&T...I don't know if they changed that or not, but regardless...it's annoying. They got my money, I wish they'd stop forcing their advertisement down my throat...

A year ago this phone was considered new and exciting. Now, every other phone on the planet does the SAME THING. Stay away from this phone and buy something that actually makes and receives phone calls that are clear. I'd rather have a crappy camera phone that at least allows my callers to hear me, but I have to wait until AT&T will allow me to upgrade my phone. YAY!

1 out of 5 stars great phone for awhile...problems now.......2007-12-09

I got a LG CU500 about 6 months ago from Amazon. The phone worked great and suited my needs, but it started going haywire a couple of weeks ago. For some reason, the phone would call the last person I talked to while it was closed and in my pocket. This is a flip phone and there are no buttons on the side or front of the phone that allow you to place calls, so it was not a case of me accidentally pressing on one of the buttons in my pocket. I just took the phone to my local AT&T store, and they showed me that barely touching the headphone jack on the side of the phone brings up the recent calls menu and dials my last call. The people at AT&T informed me that I am not the first person they have seen with this problem and the only way I can get it fixed is for AT&T to send me a replacement phone. This has been a very annoying problem and I am glad I am getting a new phone.

4 out of 5 stars Great phone, adequate mp3 player!.......2007-08-22

In general I am very pleased with this phone. Here is my breakdown of its functions and performance.

1. I'm not a cell phone connoisseur but I'd have to say that this is the best cell phone I've ever had. I get and maintain really good connections. I live in an urban area with cell towers everywhere and that may contribute to the success I've had. Still I rarely drop a call, although there are times when incoming calls fail to reach my phone. I believe the primary function of a cell phone is still to perform as a phone and this one does that just fine. Very easy to generate an address book and assign ring tones to groups and individuals. Easy to understand and operate functions (missed calls, dialed calls, and received calls). The display screen is large enough for me. The size of the phone is perfect. It fits well in the hand and is sturdy. I haven't done a lot of comparisons with other similar cell phones; I haven't needed to since this one meets all my expectations and needs as a phone.

2. The mp3 player. I purchased this phone so that I would not have to carry around an mp3 player and a cell phone. I think it performs adequately. One drawback is that the playback cannot be controlled. This phone sorts and plays the songs in its own order; I haven't been able to arrange the playback selection. This can be a bit of a put off. The next phone I get I will make sure that I can control the playback selection. The clarity of the mp3's is fine. I've found that the volume differs from headset to headset. I would suggest purchasing a headset with independent volume control. Headsets without independent volume control are rather quiet. Despite these drawbacks I still like the phone. I purchased a gig San Disc card and can load over 200 songs. Like so many others I purchased a non San Disc card and it never worked. Also, for some reason, if I turn the phone off while charging I find the phone does not recognize the disc when the charging is finished and I turn the phone on. I then have to turn the phone off and when I turn it back on the phone then recognizes the disc. I'm not sure what's causing this problem but it is annoying. One last thing, I can't separate the ring tones from my music playback. So, thanks to the inability to control the music playback, I have ring tones, including the crappy built in ring tones, popping up here and there while listening to my music. Real crappy.

3. The camera is fine. I really like the pictures this phone takes. The key of course is to hold your hand steady. I've obtained so really good pictures. I've found that by saving them to the SD card I can then transfer them to my computer of take them to a photo both and have them printed. The video is crappy. I'm sure some of this is due to inability to hold a camera phone perfectly still. Still that can't explain all of it. The images are very blurry and I doubt anyone will want to try and obtain any important video with this phone camera.

4. Now for the final category, internet, text messaging, and downloading. I've seen the video download, as a display, and it is fast with a clear picture and good sound. Of course you have to purchase a plan to cover this function and that is where the provider, in this case Cingular/AT&T gets you. If you don't purchase a plan and try to use this function your bill will increase rapidly. On the other hand if you purchase a plan that allows this function you monthly charges will greatly increase, not as much as using the function without the plan but enough to make it a turn off. I purchased a 3G phone so that I could have the next generation technology but due to the large cost associated with the technology I don't benefit from it. I have 5 users on my plan and the total basic cost for 1,400 minutes per month is around 170 dollars. Not great but not all that bad. I have two teenagers on my plan that text like fiends and so I purchased a 30 dollar a month unlimited text messaging plan. I now pay, after all fees, a little over 200 hundred dollars per month. I'm not going to pay an additional 20 to 40 dollars a month per phone, depending on the plan, for video and internet features. Call me old fashioned or just call me cheap but I have no intention of shelling out more money for services I already pay for. Once you add up the cost of my monthly cable charge, dsl internet charge, and land line phone I'm shelling out over 150 dollars for those services. Add a 200 dollar cell bill to that and I'm just over 350 per month on family communication expenses. No way in hell I'm paying for redundant services that members of my family can get elsewhere. If I want to watch the news, my kids want to watch SpongeBob SquarePants, or any of us want to surf the web than we can do it on normal cable television or on a pc. I feel like a sucker for paying over 350 dollars a month now. I'll feel like a grade "A" sucker/idiot for paying over 400 dollars for redundant services.

I'll get off my soap box. As a portable phone the LG CU500 is great. As an mp3 player it performs adequately. I'm satisfied, it meets, and somewhat exceeds, the goals I was looking for when selecting a phone.

1 out of 5 stars junk.......2007-07-11

Been using this phone for about 10 months now:
- The speaker is too quiet to hear without putting it up to your ear
- You will get "service unavailable" often, even though you have bars, though you still get notified of new voicemails
- After "service unavailable" you are taken back to the main screen, where you can start fishing all over
- The center button takes you to the internet, where you get charged by the KB
- You will be charged for internet even if you request an internet block
- Cingular will sign you up for roadside assistance without your appoval
- The discussion group on Cingular's site has thousands of trouble tickets
- The micro sd chips aren't recognized by the phone
- etc.

2 out of 5 stars worst phone ever.......2007-06-21

this phone is by far the worst phone i have ever purchased. the guy at the cingular store recomended it to me and now since iam out of the 30-day return gap, they wont switch me a new phone. the phone has horrible reception and it always drops my calls, compared to my mom's nokia from the 90's which has perfect reception.

1 out of 5 stars Does not load.......2007-09-16

I have tried to use this software on my VISTA system for Samsung SYNC SGH-A707 system and the driver does not load on my computer for the cable. I can use the real Samsung cable for VISTA along with the latest version of Samsung Sync software (software available for free from the Samsung website) to use VISTA with the phone with more capabilities then are actually listed for the phone from the Mobile Action website.

If I could rate this a ZERO I would.

5 out of 5 stars HOW SOFTWARE WORKS ON THIS KIT.......2007-08-26

For all software dealing with cell phones, one needs to keep updated. This item is sold as is, and the customer must rely on www.mobileaction.com first for support and the features that WORK on their phone for the kit model number MA-730. Not all phones work with the software for everything, some do, some work for only one thing using the model kit from Mobile Action called "MA-730." Kit sold here is the MA0730 by Mobile Action, customers must go to their site and see support for the phone they have first. The MA-730 Bluetooth kit is the most univeral one around, but the cell phones themselves have limitations, not the kit. Mobile Action tells customers specifically what does and does not work for all models with this MA-730 kit.

1 out of 5 stars Junk Software.......2007-08-21

5 out of 5 stars Super Light and Easy to Use.......2007-04-26

I got this headset for my LG VX5300, and it works perfectly. Pairing was done flawlessly; instruction booklet was very clear. The headset is very small and light-weight. The ear loop is adjustable, which is very helpful to find just the right shape for optimal comfort. The features are basic, which includes voice-dialing. Buttons are few, but easy to find and use. The sound quality is very good. I read a few reviews saying it may not be loud enough for noisy environment (due to the earphone NOT embedded inside your ear), but I have no problems with it at all. Overall a great gadget!

3 out of 5 stars OK so far but not good for small ears.......2007-11-17

I have had this only for a short time. I plan to add more info as I gain more experience with it, but there's one thing you should know right away.

The earbud portion is the kind with a soft rubber gasket around it, such that it should plug into your ear canal, sealing it off, like some earbud headphones. Most of those headphones have a small rigid portion with several sizes of interchangeable rubber buds that fit on it to mate with the ear canal. Unfortunately this LG headset has a large rigid portion and only one size of rubber bud which is only slightly larger than the rigid endoskeleton. As such, it is not very comfortable and does not fit into my ear. I have to make do with it just pressing against my ear canal opening, rather than sealing inside it.

I typically use the small size buds with headphones, so I suspect my ears are smaller than average. I think this LG headset is more suited to medium or more likely large size ears. It still works ok if it doesn't fit all the way in, it just doesn't get as loud or seal out ambient noise as well as it would if it were sealed. So, this will work for all ear sizes in quiet locations, but poorly for small ears in any other situation.

Another difficulty I have encountered already is that it gives you no indication of whether it is on or off, unless you happen to hear it's power-down tones. Otherwise there's no way to tell other than to turn it on/off with it in your ear, or by placing a call to see if it connects. There is an LED on it which lights up for certain activities, but in standby mode it looks no different than it does when it's turned off.

I also find it pretty easy to accidentally press the call button while trying to reposition it or adjust the volume, which inadvertently hangs up on the call.
