Loaded and versatile for more!.......2007-12-21
I purchased my Series 3 Tivo device several weeks ago and am really enjoying it. As a typical gadget freak, I've been enjoying the various capabilities of this terrific unit and exploring several things I was not aware of when I first purchased it. Being able to access my home network (pictures, music, and videos) is simply terrific. THX sound quality? Wow.
The only drawback is the need for the 2 Cable Cards. Sure, once you have crossed this hurdle you are golden. But as is extensively captured throughtout the web on this matter, obtaining these cards, having them installed successfully, etc. is a challenge. (And for some, a nightmare!)
Caution to future buyers: if you are hoping you can enjoy the unit right out of the box take heed. That is not going to happen unless you work for a cable company, have access to ample cable cards (many seem flawed), and know what you are doing with them.
But once you clear this hurdle, you will be very pleased as I've been!
Tivo: happy to be back.......2007-12-20
We had an original Tivo that gave up the ghost after 5 years, requiring us to go with the DirecTV DVR. The interface for that device lacked the ease of use we had associated with Tivo, so we decided to go back. Unfortunately, we had to switch to Comcast cable service because Tivo HD Series 3 doesn't work with the satellite service. The Comcast people (Sacramento) don't really know how Tivo works, so just make sure that they provide you with two CableCards for the device (whether two M-channel or two S-channel cards makes no difference) and you'll be good to go once those two cards are installed and you re-boot the Tivo.

My experience with the TiVo Series 3 Digital Media Recorder has been terrific, easy set up, broad band connection allows rental or purchase of movies from Amazon unbox. The product lives up to all the hype and Comcast was able to connect using two scards, Thumbs up for Tivo!

I finally broke down and bought a Series 3 TiVo to replace my Verizon FIOS DVR. I might have been able to tolerate the generic DVR had I not used a Series 2 Tivo for years prior. Anyway, my family and I all revolted against the inferior TiVo wannabe imitation. So, I gladly succumbed to my family's wishes and replaced it.
The Series 3 is EXCELLENT. Great picture, great sound, great features, and Tivo-intuitive. And only one remote to use now! Cool!
