I purchased this item two weeks ago. My thought was that it seemed like a reasonably priced, perfect addition to the "tools" necessary for a budding amateur backyard astronomy hobby (its advertised contents, construction, and "glow-in-the-dark" planisphere). After closely examining the item for the past ten days, I'm forced to conclude that I was in error, and that you really do get what you pay for. As Celestron is one of the most reputable names in astronomy, I must confess that I assumed that quality would follow in all products that bear their name. I have found that this does not hold true in the case of these sky maps. The major problem with the package is that it is rife with misspellings, letter transpositions, apparent omitted words, and just plain (what we used to call in the old days) "typographical errors." Additionally, when I compare some of the technical information on the maps (i.e., star magnitudes, astronomical distances, etc.)and accompanying descriptions with other authoritative astronomy sources I have in my possession, I also find numerous apparent errors and discrepances. When using a product like this, it is essential that one be able to trust the data and information it contains. Since I'm not able to do this, I must rate this item with one star. When I purchased the item, it was marked down by twenty percent. I note that in less that two weeks since my purchase, the price has been further reduced by another thirteen percent. In this case, don't be fooled (as I was) by an attractive price. AVOID THIS PRODUCT. (I don't have a substitute to recommend at this time.)

I recently purchased an orion xt6 dobsonian, and this is the kit that my telescope should have came with! The extra plossl lenses are great to have to get a better view of the night sky and the batteryless LED flashlight is a must if you want to know where anything is. The kit also features enough space to fit the accesories my telescope came with in it.

I am new to Amateur Astronomy and I recently bougth a Celestron FirstScope 90 AZ telescope. It is a 90 mm refractor telescope on an Alazimuth tripod mount. The scope came with 10 mm and 20 mm Kellner eyepieces which are great to start but soon you will need to get a couple of new,(and better) eyepieces. Well this Accessory kit fits the bill very nicely indeed, it is a recommended accessory by the website where I bought my Telescope.
It comes with two Plossl eyepieces, (12 mm and 32 mm) which are of a much higher quality than the two Kellner eyepieces included with the scope. They also have eyecups which helps the user in cutting stray light from entering the eyepiece when viewing the stars or the planets. These are great eypeices, I particularly like the 32 mm (31.25x) eyepeice which I use to locate the planets or other objects first and then I can move on to more powerful eyepeices. The 12.5 mm is also a very good eyepeice, it gives me a magnification of 80x on my scope, but it is very clear and almost aberration free.
I love the no battery red LED flashlight, it really helps with checking the starcharts while viewing the stars. The included filters are also very good, the one that I have used the most is the 96ND (Neutral Density). it is great for viewing the moon and cutting down on it's brightness, it really accentuates lunar sufrace detail. I have also used the light blue (80A) filter it helps with viewing planetary detail on Jupiter, I still need to used the other filters some more.
I have only been stargazing for almost two months now, but overall for the money that I paid ($60.95) this a great telescope accessory kit for any telescope and I am very pleased with it. I was also very pleased with the service, I ordered the kit on a Monday evening, it was shipped on a Tuesday and I received it on Thursday and used it that same day. Since then I added a 8mm Celestron Xcel eyepeice that fits in the sturdy aluminun case that came with this kit which provided additional slots for adding gadgets later. I would recommend this kit to any newcomer to amateur astronomy who has recently bouht a new telescope that uses 1.25 inch eyepeices and filters.

This is a great set. Eyepieces are high qualiity. Case is very durable as well. I have not played with the filters yet, but they screw easily into any eyepiece. For $60.00, you can not go wrong. Amazon is a great place to save on this item.

Well , let's start with the free shipping , this item arrived to my house in 3 days after i have placed my order , that was fast..
Secondly , the case itself is just greatly designed to protect your items that are 2 eyepieces,an LED flashlight,moon filters and the barlow 2X , umm , also keys for the locks of the case which i wouln't use , so i threw them away already , altogether 9 piece...i mean its 8 now without the keys :)
i am currently using them with my Celestron Firstscope 114EQ 114mm Reflector Telescope but there is something missing in this accessory kit and that is a 4mm eyepiece , thats right , this telescope has a max 227.5x of magnification and how come this kit doesn't have 4mm (225x) eyepiece ? Instead of whining i have decided to get omni series 4mm eyepiece from celestron and looks like i am all set now.
Thirdly , i wanna talk about the Celestron Tech. service , its great to see double magnification with Barlow , but unfortunately its screw drove me nuts 'cuz in the middle of the night i ve lost it (easy to lose it btw) and then they sent me a new one without interrogation..
Overall i am satisfied with this item & i would recommend this accessory kit for you..

I am very pleased with the quality of this set. Everything is multi-coated and is well made. The case is heavy duty and has room for other eyepieces. The 2X barlow lens doubles the eyepieces turning the 32mm into a 16mm and the 12.5mm into a 6.25mm eyepiece. You'll get plenty of use from the red LED flashlight as it will save your night vision when looking over your star chart.This is a great starter set for a needed upgrade from .965 eyepieces. The amazon price beats other online retailers by a mile.

Amateur astronomers have been taking great pictures of the moon and planets by using modified Webcams. The favored Webcams for astro-imaging have been the hard-to-find Philips ToUCam and Vesta models because of their high-performance CCD chips. Now Celestron's Neximage puts the same CCD technology in a package that's ready to use with any telescope that accepts 1.25-inch eyepieces. The NexImage includes an anodized metal nosepiece that fits in a 1.25-inch eyepiece holder. When I installed the Windows based software, I also updated my Windows Media Player files. Then I simply plugged the NexImage into my computers' USB port, and I was ready to start taking pictures.
The NexImage CCD is sensitive enough that I can take "snapshots" of the Moon or Sunspots (always use a safe Solar filter, of course!) even without a motor-driven telescope. The real power of the NexImage package, however, comes from its included Registax software which automatically aligns and stacks hundreds of individual AVI video frames into one sharp, highly detailed picture.
I used my 8-inch Celestron Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope (similar to the Nexstar 8 GPS ) and my 2x Ultima Barlow lens to capture some beautiful pictures of Jupiter and Saturn. The sensitive Sony CCD chip in the NexImage easily shows color and detail on Jupiter that just doesn't show up when I use CMOS-based Webcams.
The fine performance of the NexImage package is limited somewhat by its included video capture software. The AmCap software doesn't give me the precise control of exposure times I'd like; I wasn't able to photograph the moon Callisto next to Jupiter, for instance, without overexposing the planet. Celestron doesn't mention the other little drawback in its ads. You'll have so much fun that your hard drive will start filling up with pictures and AVIs! --Jeff Phillips

Vista drviers and Neximage magnification.......2007-11-08
This does not ship with drivers for Windows Vista, and Celestron are not planning on releasing any. However if you login to Yahoo user groups and search for the Neximage group, there is a folder in the files section called 'Neximage vista' which provides drivers for Windows Vista which worked great for me.
Also the magnification that you get from the Neximage is the same as what you would get from using a 5mm eyepiece on your telescope, so the length of your telescope divided by 5.
Great value and more than a toy.......2007-03-16
Installing the software was a piece of cake, using it is quite another matter. The basic introductory instructions are easy enough but after that it seems to require a PhD in mathematic astrophysics to get round all the available toggles, tweaks and options. First attempts? The moon came out real nice, but Saturn was a white blob with no fine detail. Nothing like type of pics that the super-whizzkids proudly display on the Celestron site. Will go back to night school and one day you might see my fine efforts published as well
(oh - was using it on a classic LX200 in good see'ing conditions - sorry Celestron!)

When I tried to install the software, My antivirus said it was infected. I tried to install on a different machine with a different antivirus program and got the same result. I e-mailed Celestron over a week ago and no reply.

I've used the mount with a full size SLR and several lenses. A 70-400mm zoom lens is probably heavier than the mount was designed for, but I've gotten some good night shots using long exposures with it.
It's quick to set up and take down and less obtrusive than using a full size tripod.

The Celestron Car window mount worked beyond my expectations. Not only is it a very stable holder for binoculars, but it also can serve as a dolly for your home video cameras. The shots I've got look great!
The only thing is that I wish it were a little more heavy duty.. ie maybe not made from plastic parts. (the plastic is strong, it's just that it's plastic)
Mounting plate problem........2006-01-19
I purchased this window mount and it looked OK until I attempted to mount the plate on the camera. The one I received has a plastic folding handle on the camera plate mounting screw that is wider than the recessed area under the plate. Rather than ship it back I cut away the shoulders in the recess to provide room for the screw to turn.( Couldn't alter the handle as it has a metal pin that holds it to the screw) Then when the handle is folded down I have to use a screwdriver or knife to fold it back up as it fits so tightly in the recess that I cannot access it with my finger. The rest of it seems to work OK.

Celestron 52251 Ultima 80ED Spotting Scope.......2007-10-19
I bought the Ultima 80ED spotting scope for a trip to Yellowstone this fall. Both my wife and I are glad we had it along. It offered nice crisp views of grizzlies, pronghorn, and bald eagles. This is my first spotting scope so I don't have anything to compare it to but it seemed to perform very well for a medium priced scope. I paid about $400 for it. People that we let take a look though it were also impressed. In fact one comment was "we gotta get one of these". This is not my first Celestron product. I also have one of their 8" SC telescopes. My only beef about the Ultima 80ED is that there is NO eyepiece cover. Come on Celestron, I think you've been at this optics game long enough to know to include a 2-cent piece of plastic on a scope that lists for $870.

Great barlow lens.......2007-05-07
I purchased this item to upgrade from a generic barlow lens. To test it out, i gave it a good few hours on Saturn. Very crisp, sharp edges, and good color over the entire viewing area. The only downside was that plastic cap that covers the upper opening doesn't really fit right and had to tighten the thumbscrews more than usual to keep it from popping back out. A handy lens that gives you more viewing options with your current eyepieces.
