Haier Portable DVD is a waste of $$$.......2007-04-19

I own this piece of...equipment. It was given to me for Christmas from my Daughter and I Loved it! UNTIL...it quit, just quit. It was manufactured in October 2006, I received it Christmas 2006, it's warrnty was good until March 2007 and it quit April 2007. When I got in touch with the Company they said, "Sorry!!!"...and when I quizzed a friend of mine who owns a T.V. Store and Electronics Repair Shop he said most shops don't repair them because the parts cost more than the Unit and even if they did repair them the labor would be equal to the cost of a new Unit. His recommendation, either buy American or buy an extended warranty if one is available and if you buy one as a Gift, purchase the warranty as part of the gift as well. As for my "Haier" Portable DVD, it's somewhere between the Potato peelings and the Carrot shavings.

disapointed.......2007-07-26

The first Haier boombox we ordered did not work. We shipped the product back at our expense plus ins. We contacted Etronics the distributor of the problem. They sent back another boombox that had the same problem as the first one. The TV did not work and the unit would not charge. Once again we contacted Haier of the problem. They said they would send a new battery pack. They did. It was the wrong one. We then returned the box at Etronic's expense and are waiting for our refund. The entire matter has been frustrating and expensive.

Didn't work.......2007-07-17

Unit seemed like a nice idea since it has many functions, but I found that none of them worked that well. The CD/DVD player repeated failed to load disks but would work eventually and was getting better the more we tried discs in it. One DVD with no scratches would skip every few seconds while all the others I tried worked fine. The speakers were not very good given the price of the unit. The radio tuner was alright though it was one of the old style manual knobs instead of something digital, which I thought was kinda cheap. The TV portion didn't work since where I'm at (Seaside, OR) doesn't have a UHF signal being broadcast, but that wasn't why I bought it so no big deal. The latch for the lid seemed very flimsy but I didn't have the unit long enough for it to break. But all that would have been alright except that the unit WOULD NOT CHARGE. Since it didn't work, I returned it and did not get a replacement.

Haier PDTB7 7" All- IN-ONE Portable TV/DVD/Radio Boombox.......2007-07-13

My wife and I travel quite a bit in our RV and we often stay where there are no ac hookups. We purchased this product so that we could watch tv or a DVD movie when we have no electric available to us. This unit is actually a complete home entertainment system in one compact unit. The LCD screen has very nice picture quality and the audio is excellent. It runs on ac and it also has it's own Ni-Mh rechargeable battery built in as well. I was disappointed in that it does not have RCA type audio/video inputs as most electronic items of today do, but you can get around this by using the RF type input (the same as your TV has). We have our Satelite receiver connected to ours via an RG56 cable from the output of the Satelite receiver to the RF input of the Haier Boombox. I then tune it to channel 3 and can receive satelite TV. It does have some very nice features, such as a remote control that has a menu item for adjusting picture quality or fine tuning various TV stations. It also has a 12 volt auto cord to run the unit from your car or RV. I am a retired professional video producer and was very impressed with this item. We have had this item for a little over a month now and are completely satisfied. I give this item 5 stars!

While this TV does not have the best sound, that problem is easily solved with a set of speakers. The visual quality is very high and the TV is both sleek and stylish. It is also very light to carry. You really can't find a better deal on an LCD HDTV anywhere around.

Bottom line: while the sound is definitely not adequate, that is easily solved simply by buying speakers; which is much cheaper than finding another TV with a higher audio output.

Terrible Sound.......2007-10-26

I bought this TV for my daughter. I returned it to Amazon yesterday. The sound is terrible. 100% Volume, 100% Base and 100% Treble and it was just normal volume at 6 feet. Three of us standing 6 feet away saying "is that it for volume?" Completely unacceptable loudness in both TV and DVD mode. From the Spec sheet in the box, it only puts out 1.5 watts, very low volume for a TV. Don't buy it unless you have bionic ears. Ours could have been defective, but we won't buy a Haier again unless it shows the sound output level in the Tech Spec's section of Amazon (it did not when we bought it).

Love it, but it doesn't hold up.......2007-07-20

I'm sadly returning the second one I've owned of these. I traded in the first one because the cable input port was loose when we got it, and any movement of the cable would disrupt the connection. We liked it other than that, so we decided to get a replacement. It seemed better initially - not 100% better, but we hoped it would hold up. Unfortunately, with two months' normal use, the cable connection has become unstable on this one too, and the DVD player isn't working right either.

It's a great design; I'm almost tempted to try a third time... but not being a glutton for punishment, I think I'll shop for an alternative that may not have the same nifty combination of features, but that will keep working.
