Kodak v1003.......2007-12-30
I received one of these as a gift. It's a cute little point-and-shoot, with rounded edges that look like they were inspired by Apple. The screen is monstrous and the interface is simple enough. Personally I like the joystick-type navigation, although some of my more heavy-handed friends struggle with its delicate operation. A refreshing piece of innovation is the ability to recharge the battery while it is onboard the camera. External battery chargers are great for those who carry more than one battery and like to have a backup charging at all times, but I have never met one of those people. This is where I will cease praising the V1003.
There are several reasons I returned the camera after owning it for three days. Firstly, the lack of an ultrasonic autofocus motor means any video taken by a moving photographer, or of a moving subject, will be laden with clicks that drown out recorded audio. This is because the motor that controls the AF makes enough noise to be picked up by the camera's microphone. The problem can be avoided by turning off the autofocus, but in many (read most) cases, this is completely unacceptable.
Secondly, the shutter lag was so severe that I found myself taking pictures of the future. Even after pressing the shutter button half way so that it would finish focusing, once the shutter was triggered, almost two thirds of a second would elapse before the camera recorded anything. As most of my intended use for a camera is action photography, shutter lag is unacceptable.
Finally, I have no use for 10 megapixels. If you plan to make posters, it becomes slightly more appropriate, but you will be disappointed by the quality obtained with the camera's tiny lens. It's been stated before in other reviews, so I won't harp on it, but beyond 5 or 6MP, pixel-count is just another way of keeping up with the Jonses. Instead of pixels, I look for features and responsiveness, and although the Kodak V1003 is ample in the first department, it lacks severely in the second.
(For those who may be curious, I purchased a Canon S5 IS as a replacement. I will review it in a while.)
Kokak Easy Share.......2007-12-29
My daughter purchased it. It doesn't seem as clear as my 8-pixel for some reason, and it is a 10-pixel, most noticeable inside. Not sure what the problem is. Arrived quickly and seemed to be fine at first.
good.......2007-12-28
transaction was easy and smooth, delivered by expected time, product was in good condition.. good price.. shopped other stores/sites.. amazon was the cheapest
Pictures too dark.......2007-12-02
I bought the Kodak V1003 in late August 2007 at Target...I find I am constantly using the PERFECT TOUCH technology feature in the camera to brighten up the picture... I primarily take pictures of people....I personally like brighter pictures than this camera takes...Although I love all the user- friendly features and durability (dropped it on hard concrete...no damage!) of this Kodak camera ...I decided to buy the Canon Powershot SD 750 Elph camera last week from amazon and so far I am much happier with the brightness of this Canon camera's pictures!
A Waste of Time, Sometimes.......2007-11-04
This is really a very nice camera, but with some glaring deficiencies, first the manual is next to useless, tells you just about nothing, it is disjointed, disorderly and at best vague.
I think Kodak would have been much more honest to include a flyer inside which said, " you figure it out.
The viewfinder in low light is just fine, but, go out in a sunny day with the sun behind you and you cant see a thing, I wish the camera manufacturers would do something about this, 3 cheers for canon, they put an optical viewfinder on their point and shoots.
Very sad part, this thing takes some first class photos, sad part,I will return mine.

Nothing but positivity as of now!.......2007-12-25
I have really liked this camera so far, I had a Kodak EasyShare 5mp camera before and was very satisfied besides the fact that I couldn't get audio to play with my recorded video. Unfortunately I lost it at college so my wonderful sister bought me the new Kodak EasyShare MD853! It takes very good moving pictures, I was taking random pictures out the window of my friends car and they none of them came out grainy or blurry. I also zoomed form one end of my basement to the other, took a picture of my nephew and it turned out great! Even zoomed all the way there was very little to no distortion when zooming long distances. The video is great for a camera, very clear no "blocky" like the video camera on my phone. I love the rechargeable battery, my old Kodak 5mp used disposable batteries and didn't have an on/off button, it had a switch...I would always forget to switch it off and the batteries would always die. I would get all the way to an event and realize my batteries are dead!! I don't have to worry about that with this camera. I wish they would have used a mini USB port rather than the charging port that is on it because the mini usb accessories are very cheap(car charger, wall charger, additional usb cables) I like the fact that this is HD capable, I plan on using that feature in the future. I would definitely recommend this camera to anyone looking for a new camera. THE PICTURE QUALITY IS GREAT!
Silver is not Black.......2007-12-24
This is the first time I have ordered an item from Amazon that was not a movie, book or cd. It will also be the last.
We ordered BLACK and received Silver. We were not offered an extended warranty which we would have had we bought it at a store. So there is a "price to pay", besides shipping and handling when ordering online.
It is a Christmas gift so we won't know until tomorrow if the recipient will be truly satisfied. So we won't know if it was worth the ease of ordering online.
Very grainy picture and full of noise - Ended up returning it.......2007-12-12
I had a old Kodak 5MP from before and loved the picture quality even with some limitation in the flash quality. So I went to upgrade to M853. Wow! what a heartbreaker! This camera is nowhere close to even the one of 5MP. Very grainy pictures, lots of noise, evening shots are blurry. I wouldn't recommend it even for $149. I am planning to go back with Canon.
Awesome Camera.......2007-11-24
Why I was thinking of buying canon or sony? This is an awesome camera. IF you are just interested in point and shoot, this is a best camera you would by in the market within this type of camera.
I have checked canon and sony both for this type. Both does not give features that this camera gives and not even near to the price.
For Canon, its the best picture quality you would get in the market. However, it certainly fells short in shutter lag/continuous photography. For sony its reverse. Sony has some fastest camera (in point n shoot) where you can shoot continously. But it lacks in picture quality.
This camera is a golden middle of both. It has a great picture quality and good response time.
For this camera
Pros:
Great picture quality even at night with flash
HD capability
Zoom while video capture.
Video playback with audio
In camera editing
Camera works as a charger No separate charger needed
Most lacked feature in other camera.. USB charging :)
Great point and shoot modes (17 scene modes)
Easy navigation. Dont need a manual to read and understand features.
Cons:
Buttons are small for fat fingers
Less manual control. If you are a advanced user in photography and wants great deal of manual control then this is NOT a camera for you.
Low light pictures without flash (HIgh ISO)
I tried taking pictures with high ISO in low light without flash. High ISO only adds to noise. Beyond 400, without flash its noisy.
But this seems to be the problem for Sony and Canon as well in this size camera. Partly because the camera size. They want to squeeze in CCD in a smaller area. Its a sacrifice for size.
Overall great camera and I have bought two of these. I havent played with it much but I will. I will keep updating this post as I learn more.
If you are thinking of buying camera, give this one a try at shop. I am sure you will like it :)
Kodak Camera.......2007-11-11
I was looking for a new digital camera after finally destroying my underwater Pentax Optio camera after several egregious and destructive incidents and I decided to settle on this based on the price(i also got free shipping), resolution, and brand name. Despite my terrible reasoning, I am quite impressed by this camera. It provides excellent pictures and gives great video quality for a camera. It has a nifty burst picture feature to take three pictures in a row and the shake stabilization/moving subject feature works well, I pretty much spun on my chair taking pictures and while they weren't stunning quality the camera was able provide a decent image, better than my previous camera anyway. Zoom is amazing and was able to provide me with the most intense picture of my roommate's inner ear. Criticisms: 1. Feels kinda cheap. I am scared to drop this thing. 2. Has issues with low light and the low light settings actually made it worse when i was testing it out, go figure. 3. A rather long delay after the picture is taken making it hard to take multiple pics, guess that why they included the burst feature but doesn't give you as much quality. Overall, good camera, i just wish i got the red one...

Kodak EasyShare V803.......2007-12-28
I gave this camera as a gift for my daughter. The first one I gave her broke and Amazon sent another quickly. She hasn't used it yet.
Don't buy this camera for the video feature.......2007-12-21
I can't review the photographic quality of the camera, since I took it out of the box, turned it right to video to capture my baby's babbling. It was easy to use sure, but when I went to see the video, all I could hear was the camera's motor!! The machine noise was louder than my baby!
I had a Kodak v570 (no longer made :(, and this camera is not nearly the same quality. It's light and feels cheap, not a metal case. I put it right back in the box and sent it back.
I
<3 my camera.......2007-12-18
I received the camera and I thought, "it's too cute!" It's small and can fit in your pocket. Once I started using it I hadn't really taken advantage of all its cool features but now I use them all the time to crop photos without having to do it on the computer. It wasn't too expensive and it's 8 MEGA PIXELS!!
Pretty color, not the best camera.......2007-12-08
I initially bought this camera in the pink color for my mother, someone who is totally non tech savvy. I asked her what kind of camera she was interested in and she said "a pink one". At that time, this camera was brand new and I had bought myself the more expensive V603 (which I don't believe is made anymore) and was incredibly pleased with it. I assumed that this camera was a similar model so I got it for her.
Like most of the other kodak digitals I've worked with, the interface on this camera is extremeley user friendly. It does come in a wide variety of colors which is nice when you want it to match your personality. The screen is big and clear and the controls are easy to use.
However, when we got it out of the box and started playing with it, we realized that it was inferior to the v603. One of the best things about my camera is the button to shutter speed. This camera had a small delay like so many other digital cameras. Also, the photos weren't very clear. Once we started printing them up we realized that the detail, even at the highest resolution, was blurry or fuzzy. Also, there were some serious flash problems. I don't know if the one we got was a defective model or if it was an issue in more of these cameras, but after taking a flash photo it was a good minute or two before the flash would work again. Not what I would expect from Kodak.
My suggestion is don't buy this camera. The price has come down, yes, but it could make for an embarressing gift if the recipient has the same issues my mom. If you are looking for a pink camera I highly reccommend the Casio Exilm (which is what we ended up getting for mom after I returned this one to the store.
This camera is perfect!.......2007-12-03
Super easy to use, clear sharp pics, and- finally!- a girly style (pink for me). Compatible with my outdated EasyShare camera stuff, software and memory card etc (guess you can tell this grandma is new at this). Takes great closeups of my wiggly puppies and grandkids!

A Camera with an Identity Crisis.......2007-12-31
It's not often I write reviews for tech gadgets but I thought I would make an exception. Allow me to introduce you to the Kodak Easyshare V1253, a 12-megapixel camera that I had the opportunity to use over the holidays. What sets this camera apart isn't its large image capacity - after all, exactly how far will the megapixel craze take us? Will we have 30 megapixel cameras by next Christmas?
What really impressed me was the identity crisis this camera has - it thinks it's a camcorder too! I read on the box that this camera was also capable of capturing 30 frames-per-second widescreen video in High Definition (720p). I must admit that I was skeptical since every video I had ever seen captured on a digital camera was horribly inadequate for viewing on a television screen.
The video quality blew me away. I shot countless videos over Christmas and proceeded to integrate them into a DVD using iDVD. The end result was a video that impressed everyone who saw it. You could have fooled anyone into thinking it was shot on a HD video camcorder costing 3 times as much.
Which brings me to the final selling point for this camera - the price. I would have thought $220 for a 12MP camera was a good deal by itself but the ability to shoot great digital photos and high-definition video? Now that's pretty amazing.
There's plenty of other features this camera has such as great face recognition technology, impressive low-light capability but for me the video sealed the deal. And for the price you can't go wrong.
Price, Quality, and Features Make this Camera a Winner.......2007-12-30
Guten Tag!!
This camera is Awesome!!
The camera that I have came with the update already loaded.
This was compared in store to some other brands. The sales guy was actually pitching me hard on another brand and a lot more expensive camera. However, he was shocked, as I was, when we compared the video, the quickness of the auto focus, and the quality of the pictures.
The video on the other brand, in addition to not being HD, was very choppy looking compared to this camera.
Also, believe it or not this camera focused faster than the other cameras we compared it to.
And lastly, the pictures looked as good (if not better) to more pricier models.
The pictures' colors and sharpness seem very natural and they have a great pop to them.
And HD video on a $200 camera?!?! Wow!! The vids look great! I have had no issue watching the vids on my computer.
I hope Kodak adds even more video features on the next iteration.
Great Camera with hard-to-beat Price and Features.
Great potential so far unfulfilled.......2007-12-29
I had high hopes in the purchase of this camera, and I am still not quite content. I'll start with the first issues I've encountered that bother me the most and then detail additional pro's and con's at the end.
Please note that I have installed the firmware update as of the first week of December 2007.
1. I've looked all over for a solution, but there is a missing codec for Quicktime, which is largely Apple's fault, but it prevents you from viewing and hearing the video's recorded in HD 720 at this time. I've read this is an issue in both Vista and XP, although I only have Vista at this time. I've tried all of the proposed solutions, and I am not the slightest bit challenged in this department. This is also a pain when you want to take the video you've captured and convert it to a DVD or other media.
2. No matter what size of memory card you have in the camera, it maxes out at 16 minutes of constant video capture. If you have the memory for more video, you can take more than 16 minutes in total, but they will be in 16 minute (or less) chunks.
3. The focus can be a little glitchy. I find myself being more patient to wait for it to come into focus, but my wife and mother-in-law have taken many poorer photos with the camera with the point-and-click mentality. I got the camera in anticipation of the birth of our first child, and I've been disappointed by many of the pictures that my mother-in-law was able to get of the delivery. As an addition of this, sometimes the foreground is focused correctly but the backgrounds come out very pixelated and blurry, without zoom.
The Good:
- Re-chargeable battery, just plug into your USB or buy the AC Adapter and you aren't loading up on rechargeable AA batteries anymore, or carrying around the lot in your camera case.
- Great HD quality video that will be functional on computers in the future.
- Price. $230 is the going rate and very competitive.
The Bad:
- Takes poor pictures in poor light
- 3x Optical Zoom
- 16 minute limit for consecutive video
Kodak Kamera is Kool.......2007-12-29
One of the better point and shoot pocket sized cameras, this Kodak machine has features galore, all at a great price !
Just in a month serious Shutter Cover Problem.......2007-12-28
I bought this camera for my vacation travels before thanksgiving. Just after a month, during our family vacation trip we took some great snapshots in the beginning and then suddently the lens cover won't open. Camera was totally useless in that state. We were at the most scenic place during our trip when camera showed this problem and we couldn't take the pictures of that amazing place. Not only that but we had no other means to take pictures during rest of the travel days. This left us frustrated. I have already used Nikon, Canon and Sony cameras and never saw such kind of issues. I really hated this camera.
After coming back from vacation I contacted Kodak and they wanted camera to be sent to them for service. I have already sent them the camera. I will try to keep you updated.

Grainy Pictures.......2007-12-30
I had the Kodak DX7630, it took excellent pictures. I dropped it and broke the case so decided to go with Kodak again. This time buying the V1233. Indoor pictures were awful, blurry and grainy. Outdoor shots were fine. Returned the camera and bought a Canon.
Still in the ditch.......2007-12-28
I purchased the V1233 December 19, 2007.
Positives: Cheap for a purported 12 Mega Pixel Camera(Lens doesn't allow its 12 mega pixel rating to be effectively used in anything except the most ideal conditions)
Negatives: (1)Lacks a useful printed manual. (2)Very bad ergonomics. Uncomfortable, heavy "pocket camera" with crowded buttons all over leaving little room to actually hold the camera.(3)Slow shot cycle even using HS SD memory.(4)Ineffective redeye reduction flash.(5) Ineffective antishake(6)AC charger was D.O.A. (7)1 hour and forty minute wait on the phone only to get poor customer service from Kodak.
I remember when Kodak went in the poor design, poor quality, ditch a decade or so ago. I thought surely they had extricated themselves from that in the 10+ year interval since then. I was wrong. The ditch is now an abyss. Returned it today and happily bought a Fuji S700 that is twice the camera (even at 7 mega pixels) for less money.
I will never go back to Kodak again, as they have now totally lost my trust. Too bad for a former giant to take such a fall and then chose to remain down on the mat wallowing over customers who try to return as patrons. I repeat, Never again!
Misleading Advertizing.......2007-12-15
The images on the screen for this product includes a tripod, memery card, card reader and camera case, but these items are not included in the package. Per customer service, these items are intended to show possible accessories, but this is not clear and there are no links to these products. Be careful! I feel mislead.

Customer Reviews:
Kodak has awful Customer Service, Dont Buy.......2007-10-25
I bought this camera, and at first it took great pictures, but then the quality started to get bad. I contacted Kodak and they would not help me. Horrible customer service, as you can see from previous reviews. I will NEVER buy a Kodak again!
Camera was great; Kodak was awful........2007-09-16
I received the Kodak V603 camera last Christmas from my parents, who wanted to get me a camera that was small enough to fit in my purse but that I would be able to take great pictures with. This camera met all those expectations and worked great for months. I took tons of pictures and video (which both came out great - the pictures were excellent quality, and when you watch the videos you would never guess that they were dont with such a little digital camera!) In July of this year, I charged my battery and my spare battery, as I was going to a wedding and wanted to use the pictures as part of their wedding gift. We made the trip down there, only to find that my camera was not working - with either battery. The camera would turn on, ask for the date and time to be reprogrammed, and then immediately shut off. Kodak advised me to send the camera to them, as it was still covered under warranty. They have since received it, and after inspecting the camera they told me that they would have to charge me for the repair, stating that I must have dropped it for the camera to not be working properly. I can assure you that I have never dropped my camera; I took great care of it the entire time it was in my possession. The insane part of all this is that they want me to pay $160 to repair the camera. It only cost $200 to begin with! And if you don't repair it, they charge you $50 for inspecting the camera and shipping it back. The only other option is to "scrap" the camera - which of course is a great option for them, as you lose the camera and they get to refurbish it and sell it again. Either way, they get their money for the camera twice. I would pay to have it repaired, but I have no way of guaranteeing that this won't happen again. I know that I did not ever drop the camera, so if that's not really the reason for why it stopped working, how am I to know that it won't happen again? As a result of this, I have chosen to do a little research and purchase a camera from a different company. I absolutely loved this camera while I had it, and I don't deny that it took amazingly crisp, perfect pictures almost every time. I am just extremely unhappy with the service from Kodak, and I feel that before you purchase the camera, consider the service you will receive if it does stop working.
kodak camera review.......2007-09-15

Great at first..........2007-08-22
When I first bought this camera I loved it. It took great pictures and has great features.
After less than a year the screws have started to come out; the bottom is being held together by duct tape. Every once in a while the flash will dim so that none of my indoor pictures come out and then it will eventually return to full brightness for no apparent reason.
Now if I zoom in to full optical zoom the camera shuts off. This means I can't use the digital zoom at all and if I'm taking video and zoom "too far" I'm screwed. I've missed some of my dog's cutest moments because my camera shuts off when I zoom in.
Sometimes the camera won't turn on. I'm assuming this is because the battery loses it's connection; if I take it out and put it back in the camera turns on fine. It's annoying because whenever I change the battery I have to re-set the date and time, which is something I've never had to do with a camera before.
It also seems that my close up pictures aren't coming out as nicely as they used to; they're coming out mid-quality rather than high quality. This means that they'll come out slightly blurry when at full size making quality resizing impossible.
My last digi was a Kodak EasyShare as well and diminishing quality over time seems to be a regular thing with Kodak cameras.
Great Camera.......2007-08-10
Compact, great pictures, low cost. Good all around camera. Works well in most situations in AUTO. Has plenty of optional modes that expand its functionality to almost all point and shoot photo situations.
