Design
With a total weight of 5.1 ounces and slim measurements of 3.87 x 2.91 x 0.87 inches (WxHxD), the nüvi 350 is just right for the pocket or purse. A bright, 64,000-color display dominates the front of the device and a resolution of 320 x 240 pixels means that there's plenty of room for displaying map data and other elements of the device's interface. An SD memory card slot is provided for expansion software, such as a points of interest database, media files and electronic guides (see below). The flip-up antenna includes an MCX-type connector for connecting the unit to an external GPS antenna. Meanwhile, a powerful built-in speaker resides on the back of device. A built-in lithium ion battery will give you for to eight hours of battery life, depending on use. In addition to an AC charger, the unit also ships with a 12-volt power adapter for vehicle charging, as well as a windshield suction cup mount.

Fortunately, Garmin has made it easy to interface with the nüvi 350's 700 megabytes of onboard memory, thanks to "plug-and-play" USB mass storage support. Just plug the device into your computer's USB port and you've got instantaneous access to all the audio books, music, photos, supplemental maps and other data on the nüvi 350's internal and SD card memory.

Navigation
The nüvi 350 is first and foremost a personal GPS device. Wherever you go -- in your car or on foot-- the device offers extremely accurate position data, thanks to a high-sensitivity integrated GPS receiver by SiRF and WAAS-enabled, 12-satellite reception. Combined with detailed maps of the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico the nüvi 350 provides automatic routing, turn-by-turn voice directions, and touchscreen control-- making it easy to find your way anywhere. Plus, the unique "text-to-speech" feature calls out turns by street name, and you can choose from either 2D or 3D mapping perspectives when you're viewing your route on the display. Additionally, the nüvi 350 is compatible with Garmin's GTM 10 FM TMC traffic receiver*, which allows users to avoid traffic tie-ups by simply pushing a button that will calculate a new route.

As mentioned, the nüvi 350 comes packed with mapping data for North America, but you can can also load up your custom points of interest. Set up proximity alerts for school zones, safety cameras, and more using Garmin's free POI (points of interest) loader program (available from garmin.com).

The device automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way.

Tools for the Journey
Navigation is just part of the journey, and the nüvi 350 is one of the first devices to recognize that. The built-in "Travel Kit" offers an MP3 player, an audio book player from Audible.com, a jpeg-format picture viewer, a world travel clock with time zones, a currency converter, a measurement converter, and a calculator.

In addition to the included travel tools, additional software add-ons are available, such as the Garmin Language Guide, with data provided by Oxford University Press. This software suite contains a multilingual word bank, phrase bank, and five bilingual dictionaries. The multilingual word bank and phrase bank supports nine languages and dialects, including American English, British English, French, German, Italian, Brazilian Portuguese, European Portuguese, European Spanish, and Latin American Spanish. Now you can look up and translate more than 17,000 words or 20,000 phrases per language -- right in the palm of your hand. Through the unit's text-to-speech interface, users can get a spoken pronunciation of each entry in the word bank, along with gender and part of speech information.

Another useful add-on software package, the Garmin Travel Guide, is loaded with information provided by Marco Polo. These guides put in-depth travel information such as reviews and recommendations for restaurants, tourist attractions, and more at your fingertips. The software allows you to navigate to an address or search points of interest-- places like hotels, restaurants, shopping, and tourist attractions. The nüvi 350 automatically calculates the fastest route and provides voice-prompted turn-by-turn directions along the way. The unit also audibly announces the name of upcoming streets-- letting you keep your eyes on the road while navigating through busy traffic and tricky roadways. And if you stray off course, the nüvi 350 automatically calculates the quickest way to get back on track.

You don't even have to watch the screen.......2007-12-26

When using this device, you don't have to be distracted by looking at the screen, your just listen. Street names are announced in time to make a turn. Driving after sunset is now possible for me. Even if you make a wrong turn it simply recalculates a route. If you start out a different way than Nuvi tells you, no problem it always knows where your are and it just continues to recalculate the route. The sound is clear and you can't get lost and it can be used in any car you drive.

Short story - BUY ONE. The Garmin 350 is the best. Easy to use, fast reliable directions and it announces the street name when your approaching a turn.

1. Easy to use - Do not need owners manual. Simply punch in address and gives reliable easy to follow directions.
2. Buttons easy to push with FAT fingers - I could not work the TOM TOM buttons neither could my smoking hot 48 year old wife.
3. Announces street names when approaching a turn. Do not discount this feature. The Garmin 350 and above have this feature. You do not need to take eyes off road to double check street name.
4. Very accurate and great graphics. Can tell the difference between my driveway and garage.
5. Easy to see in day time sunloading.
6. Plenty of volume (I have three boys under 13)
7. Sturdy vehicle mount. The suction cup mount is well engineered.
8. Has the "hole in the wall" local restaurants - WOW.
9. Automatically re calculates directions if I detour.
10. With a push of a button will give alternate route if traffic snarls.
11. The Garmin 350 comes with AC and vehicle charger and a leather case.

I'm very disappointed. Did you send me a used one or new. I ordered a new unit. There were missing parts. There was no Manual, Quick Start Guide and Warranty card enclosed. All that was in the box was the unit and AC adapter. I thought J&R was a reliable store.

Just came back from a trip to PA during the holidays and the Maestro was all that I could have asked for. I like the sound directions that tell you whether to bear to the right or the left and the advance notice of the next turn. Remarkable. A family member offered to print out on-line map directions to his church, but I told him that I wouldn't need them since I had my Maestro. All I needed was the address to the church and I was all set. I couldn't give the product the highest rating, however, b/c there were a couple of times when the directions given didn't match the exact location, but this was a minor problem and nothing to be concerned about. Another feature I enjoy is that it tells me what turn to make in a specific number of miles. Then it tells me how many miles further to my destination. Very reasonably priced, too.

The Magellan Maestro 3100 is very accurate and easy to use. It has just about everything that you need while traveling. I just wish it had more points-of-interest built into it, but for the money it's really a bargain.

Overall good service from this little thing. Here's a few things that went wrong already: when going to George Washington Bridge in NY, it suggested a slightly longer alternate route right before entering the bridge. It may be that it didn't know of a new, shorter path to the bridge. No problem there. On our way back into NYS, right after the bridge, it lost track of its path and it froze. We tried re-entering the address, but it wouldn't turn back on. Only after we reset it did it come back, even then, with a delay.

I think that if you need only the basics of navigation, (and some POIs) without all the bells and whistles, it's a great buy at the price of $160.

Magellan 3100 GPS.......2007-12-24

We have not taken a long trip with this instrument as of yet- but plan to in the next couple of months. For short trips- we find it pretty accurate.We have to laugh- as if we go past a turn (because we know a bridge is being rebuilt) it is determined to still take you there by recalculating the route. If you go way out of line- it tells you to make a "U" turn as soon as possible. So far we have found it very interesting and certainly it will be a lifesaver on our trip. Can't wait to put it in good use. It is small and very handy to just take with you when you leave the car. I have sent for an ac/dc wall charger so we can simulate our big trip in the house before we go. If you can afford a more expensive one- it probably would be the way to go- with all the extra perks- but for fixed income people- it will work just fine.

I just received this product today. I ordered it in new condition but I believe it was used. The product came from the amazon returns center and when I opened the box, none of the pieces were wrapped in plastic. The main unit itself is a little scratched. I will probably return this...buyer beware.

Garmin Nuvi 200.......2007-12-23

Having already used a Garmin Nuvi 370, we were very disappointed with the Nuvi 200. We intend to replace it with the 370 which is far superior. The 200 does not name any of the streets to turn at. It only tells you to turn in point x miles which is not at all helpful when you are driving in an area you are not familiar with. The 370 warns you ahead of time the name of the street to turn at and repeats the name at the point of turning. Just listen and drive. This product is absolutely great. It has been a lifesaver, though i still use directions as back up from yahoo or google, but overall this product is fabulous. the bluetooth feature is great. oh and whoever cant afford an iphone, get this. Why??? because, thanks to the SD Memory Card, i can listen to my music while driving, and also use my phone via the bluetooth connection, and also be navigated to wherever i need to go. this product is great.

I reviewed many of these user reviews before purchasing this unit. I compared a lot of different makes/models and am very pleased with the performance of the unit. The text-to-speech capabilities are good (sometimes "the voice" is a bit difficult to make out, but overall its acceptable. My favorite function, and the reason I purchased this unit versus the wider-screen version was the bluetooth capability which works wonderfully with both my Blackberry and Motorola cell phones. The suction cup mount is very effective and I had no trouble installing it. This was a great buy for the price - the performance has been terrific.

Recently a route I travel on occasion was closed and I needed to take a detour. This was great, I had no problems finding where I was going with the Garmin guiding me. I like this so much better than the built in GPS in my husband's vehicle. His doesn't seem to show the smaller streets. No problem with my Garmin!

Excellent. I also own GPS built into car and nuvi 680. nuvi 360 is a smaller version of nuvi 680. Pronunciation of woman speaker could be improved. Doesn't re-calculate as fast as units built into our cars.

I received this unit as a Christmas gift and I highly recommend the unit. I took a drive to a rural area within an hour of opening the gift and it couldn't have been easier to use. I plugged the unit into the power adapter - it took about 90 seconds to download from the satellite (a one-time activity) and it was ready to use. I had not read any manuals and I found it intuitive to use. I was able to put in the address I was headed to and it quickly calculated a route. it wasn't the route I normally took so I turned a different way and it immediately recalculated the route without further input. The unit speaks in a variety of voices and it does give you the name of the street you will be turning on. Very simple to use.

The only thing some people may find as a negative is that the pronunciation is not always accurate. However, to offset any confusion, the street name is also displayed on the screen. I haven't downloaded any new voices but I look forward to exploring that aspect of the unit as well!!

I have had it for over a year and travel all the time. It stores all my addresses and never gets me lost. I need to upgrade the maps but for some reason have an issue paying $60+ to get the updates. Will wait until I start getting lost and then think about it. Payed way to much but like any electronic gadget the price always comes down after a wile.

I purchased two of these as gifts for myself and my son. I have the SP c330 and like it very much. I am upgrading to this model because of the voice naming streets capabilities. I was totally disappointd though when I went to the Garmin website to check on the manual and accessories, I found out that this model has been discontinue. Amazon should have offered this as a discontinued item with a bigger discounted price. At the very least notify the buyer(s) that this item was discontinued. I am however confident that this product will work well for what my needs.

I bought this item during thanksgiving period, so it is a deal. just tried several times, shows instruction fine, but took too long time to locate satellite, usually five mins or so.

Once I got it working, it functions as it should, with all the great features Tom Tom offers. But after having to use a paper clip to reset EVERY time I turned it on, I looked to the web for troubleshooting. Turns out, it is a common recurring issue for this model. It has become known as the "White Screen of Death" because that is all you see without resetting. E-mails to support went unanswered, and it seemed this was also common amongst others who had the same issue. After only two days, I figured this wasn't worth the trouble. Circiut City took it back no problem. I would stay away from a company that appears to sell a defective product without recalling it or at least supporting it. ...

I received this TomTom ONE for Christmas this year (2007). I had been looking at numerous GPS units (Garmin, Magellen, etc) and I had heard good things about TomTom units from friends and coworkers.

Needless to say, I am absolutely FLOORED by how great this little unit is. It's slim & lightweight (and thus extremely portable), and the screen, while not huge at 3.5" diagonal, is bright, clear, and easy to read (day and night). The touch screen is responsive, and the voice directions are loud and clear (easy to hear even at high speeds).

It comes pre-loaded with USA & Canada maps, and is phenomenally easy to use. Just tap, type in the beginning of an address, and it finds it for you; route re-calculation is also a plus.

All in all, a powerhouse GPS in a small package, HIGHLY recommended for anyone in the market.

White Screen Error.......2007-12-26

apparently most TomTom One V3s have a bug. every time you turn it on after setting your preferences you get a frozen white screen. you have reset the unit EVERY TIME you turn it on in order for it to work. there are TomTom forums on the web now with disappointed Christmas gift givers/ receivers with a bunk product.
