Great Camera, Christmas Gift.......2007-12-26

Received the A570IS for a Christmas gift, even though I have only used it for a few hours, I think it's a great camera. There are so many picture mode and manual settings I will probably never use them all. Some reveiws talked about batteries not lasting long enough. They should have had the old Fuji I had, I could only take about 10 photos on a set of AA.

I bought this camera at Thanksgiving and am on the 4th set of batteries. I can hardly take more than 10 shots before the camera tells me the batteries are running low. Interestingly, if I open and re-shut the battery door, often times, but not always, this makes the battery warning sign turn off. Maybe a bad connection? But what do you do? Can't take the chance that the batteries really are low and then miss the shot you're after.... I'm going to contact Canon and see what's up.

Bought this camera as a replacement for my still functioning Sony 3.2MP cyber shot that was 5+ years old with a tiny screen.

Boy, they dont make them like they used to. This cameras body is mostly plastic, but that is how most of the cameras in this price range are now.
Nice 2.5" screen is easy on my aging eyes.Great price through Amazon included a 2GB SD card.

The Canon A570IS has many features but the automatic setting is just fine for me. Pictures are crisp and nice looking.Disappointed that there is no constant battery meter and that you can not resize pictures on the fly.(If someone knows how, please let me know.)

Time will tell if this camera will last as long as my Sony but so far, so good.

Great Camera. I have a baby on the way and wanted to make sure that that I have a good quality camera and I'm very happy with this camera.
I also bought a Nikon Cool Pix L1 almost 2 years ago ( almost $300.00) and every other picture was blurry...........

Amazon customer service is stellar!.......2007-12-23

The purpose of my review is not for this product itself, but for Amazon's stellar customer service. I just felt it necessary to post a testimony. I'm just an average online consumer who occasionally orders products online. I have no affiliation with Amazon; nor do I know anyone who works for them. I have enough experience with online shopping to see differences in customer service.

With Amazon, I've ordered products ranging from books, electronics, small appliances, and "other". I've never had a problem with security with my credit card. And all the products that I've ordered from Amazon, whether direct from them, or, was forwarded to an associate of theirs, arrived on my doorstep on time or rather, more typically, ahead of the estimated delivery dates INCLUDING DURING THE MAD RUSH OF THE HOLIDAYS!

For the products that I have ordered through Amazon, I have also experienced the value (cost savings). I can state that fact because I have performed in-depth research on the products that I have purchased before I hit the "OK" button.

After I order my items, Amazon emails "status" notifications. I can also log in and check the status of my order anytime that I want.

Only once, I needed to return an item to Amazon at no fault of theirs; I had ordered the wrong item. I returned the item unopened, completely in the same condition as they had sent it to me, and then ordered the item that I really wanted. Amazon credited my account within 3 business days of receipt of my returned item. And, I was delighted they credited me back the cost that I paid out of my pocket for shipping the item back to them. There was a minor hiccup with the return where initially Amazon thought that I had used one of their prepaid labels to ship the item to them. When I emailed them explaining the mixup, within 24 hours, they emailed me a formal apology and adjusted my account.

I realize that each circumstance is looked at by Amazon, as they do have return policies in place. And perhaps as you read my testimony you are muttering something different. I can only account for my experience with them.

If you are in doubt of ordering anything online through Amazon, you can be sure that they are stellar in customer service. In my experience of dealing with various online and various in-store customer service, I honestly thought this particular Amazon "return" experience was going to be a nightmare. They made it so easy. Amazon should be an icon and an example for other companies on what customer service is about.

perfect travel photos.......2007-12-22

I'm an architect, so naturally I take lots of photos of buildings when traveling. The slightly wider angle made a noticable difference, because now I can take great photos of buildings from right across the street. The colors are also great and I find myself printing straight from the camera output instead of spending a lot of time in photoshop. The scene modes give great results, especially the indoor and night snapshot modes. My dog's eyes usually turn out great with this camera's flash on indoor mode, instead of turning green.

I am an ex professional photographer. I do own more sophisticated equipment but wanted something to stick in my pocket when I'm on the go. After much research and reading other customer reviews I felt confident in choosing the SD800. The deciding factor was the Wide Angle feature. I just can't describe how incredible the pictures are. Very easy out of the box features. I have used this camera in some difficult situations just to see it's capabilities and am blown away by the performance. Best investment I've made in quite a while. Thanks Canon for a GREAT product.

Function red-eye is not working.......2007-12-18

Got it just for a few days but really love it. Upgrade from canon A80 which still love but it is bit bulky to carry around. The pictures are so clear. The video is good too. One small thing is I can't figure out how to do color accent and color swap even though followed the advantage manual, but it is just me not the canon. Hoppfully can some one read it show me steps how to. Darn me

Update 12/24/2007: After playing about few weeks, I decided to update the new reviews.

Beside loving and all this unit (the pictures are so more clearer compare to my old Canon A80) , the red-eye function is so NOT working. After took about hundred of pictures of my son at night time inside my house, most all came out with terrible red eye, compared to my Canon A80 with this function works perfectly. I am so disappointed.

I bought this camera for my wife but she hasn't got to hold it very much :) It is feature-rich, but still simple to use. I love the color swap and color highlight feature as well as the wide-angle lens. Oh, and don't forget about the image stabilization (which is a real life saver). Images are crisp and colors are vivid.

Don't hesitate to buy this camera, you won't regret it.

It's a good deal overall. I doubt you'll find a better quality camera for this price. Still I will consider buying some more expensive equipment next time.
Pros:
Easy to use
Huge LCD screen
Battery life is ok
Cons:
Sharpness. Prepare to get quite a few blurry shots, especially when shooting inside. This cam has to be totally steady if you care for sharpness.
Brightness - flash light could be more powerful if you don't want to adjust brightness/contrast in Photoshop after shooting close-ups inside.
Colors - could be more vivid at the auto mode.

I was worried to buy a Canon and at a price that was cheaper than its Nikon counterpart, but its great. It does not suck battery power (I'm still using the set it came with 3weeks later), in review mode, if you move the camera the picture adjusts and moves too!! Overall, it was a great buy I think.

Top Notch Picture.......2007-12-25

Gave to the wife for Xmas. She loves the bright and crisp photo display, plus the frame has some heft so it won't flop over unexpectantly. I received this a couple of weeks ago and set up 63 photos onto a 32 meg card skipping the 16 meg internal memory altogether. It took a little time to master the sequential modes of going through menus but really nothing to it when you recognized the simple < > up, down enter button interface ( not a touch screen). My biggest disappointment was how I assumed that the frame had a back-up battery or the ability to play on it's own internal battery. ???? I had flipped between the Philips White, Wood and this one. Dispite that qlitch I kept the frame and will live with that snafu. Oh yes, original price I paid was $120, Amazon dropped the price in early Dec to $99 and promptly credited my Visa for the difference.

A beautiful disappointment..........2007-12-23

I did extensive research before buying this as a gift for my 90 year old mother. What appealed to me about this vs much less expensive frames was: easy operation, high resolution, and a built-in battery so you could unplug it and carry it around to share pictures.

The images really are beautiful. But the product no longer comes with a built-in battery (Amazon has removed the mention from its website since I purchased though it's still in Philips' own product sheet). And the interface, though simple (just a few buttons) is by no means intuitive. I'm used to technical things yet it took me quite a while to figure out how to navigate the many menus in order to do the simple task of loading in a few pictures and getting rid of the annoying default slide show effects (which are way too intrusive and distracting) and big clock in the corner of the screen.

Unfortunately, as soon as you unplug it the defaults return... it's obvious the software has not been updated since the battery was removed from the product specs. It's a beautiful disappointment and, were it not 2 days before Christmas as I'm discovering all of this, I'd return it for a more basic model and use the savings for a couple of memory cards.

I absolutely love this digital photo frame. Great resolution and color. My husband bought this for me for Christmas 2006. I set it up in our kitchen on the counter. About 3 weeks ago, the digital frame died. I freaked out. I called Amazon. They practically laughed and I'm sure the CS Rep that I was a crazy woman, so I called Phillips and they immediately sent me a replacement and a pre-paid shipping label for the dead frame. I couldn't believe they did this since I had the frame for 11 months! What great customer service.

This year I bought 3 of these frames for gifts.

This is my very first experience with any digital frame, and thanks to so many that reviewed this product, I purchased two as gifts. It was a tad tricky to get the settings like I wanted, but that was just a learning curve on using the buttons; once I had it figured out, it was a breeze. The frame looks nice, heavy and feels like it's build to last...the quality of the pictures is way better than I'd expected, so I was very pleased. It didn't take much time at all to load, and while it does have some internal memory, it pays to buy an external memory card and just load it up with tons of photos. Anyone you're doing this for will love it, and I was so thrilled I was hoping to order myself one today, but I see they're out of stock!

Highly recommended, especially for the price...

Great picture but lacks memory.......2007-12-18

This product has a great picture, but lacks in memory storage when loading pictures from your computer. It only has 9 MB. With a lot of cropping and editing I was able to load 15 pictures. For the price they should come with at least 64 MB or more. The picture was bright and the frame was sturdy.

I love this camera.......2007-12-26

I bought this camera for myself just before the holidays since mine had broke. I love this camera, it's easy to use, takes great pictures, small enough to carry in my purse, on the motorcycle and is always handy. I am really having a great time with this camera, I NEVER miss anything anymore. Pictures are easy to download off the camera to computer. I have never had any problems with this camera.. I just love it!!!

I really like Canon cameras but was surprised to find that this camera seemed to be 'cheaply' built. After less than a day of normal use, the camera was stuck in video mode. Simply put, the toggle button didn't work anymore and I had to return the camera.

I bought this Canon PowerShot SD1000 (7.1MP 3x Optical Zoom) in Nov. 07 and I like it very much. It's small enough to fit in your pocket, you can make small movies, and it does the focus automatically. I paid $172.99 and I think it's a good deal.
I bought a canon camera because a friend of mine who is into photography told me this is a good brand and so far I'm delighted.

I rate that item with 4 stars only because the angle of view is kinda small nevertheless you use photostitch to collocate 2 or more pictures together and then get a large scene.
The optical zoom is limited but still ok for a small footprint.

Don't forget to get a memory card for your camera!

Handy Little Guy!.......2007-12-25

I have a Kodak Easy Share "Z" series for regular traveling, a Nikon D40 w/zoom for sporting events/activities but never had a little one to keep with me all the time "just in case". Bought this so I would always have one in my purse and WOW - takes amazing pictures. Incredibly easy to use. Shutter speed isn't as fast as I would like it to be, but for everyday use, it is more than enough.

I like the size and quality of the picture that comes out of it. It's battery life is outstanding and it's easy to use. This is my second Canon and I would buy another.

This camera boasts of really exceptional quality in terms of picture quality, camera performance and features and it lives up to its name and advertisement. Colours are really vivid. The 3" LCD display is a great feature, you do not have to search with a flashlight to see the images that you have taken. The single drawback is that you have to depress the shutter button for much too long a time to shoot.

Great camera that I have always wanted at a great price from Amazon. I had several other Canon digital cameras and as usual very satisfy with them. Big 3" LCD display was one of the major factor I bought it for easy review of pictures taken. I have tried the Sony W55 before from my friend and I thought the Sony looked great but the picture quality was not as good as the Canon. Besides, using the Memory Stick was a turn-off because MS is expensive compared with SD. The only commnet I have for Canon is I hope they can design a better appearance (better appeal) camera like the Sony or Casio. Great picture quality cameras can look nice too. Go Canon.

I had the opportunity to use this camera before purchasing it, and it is great for the money! Love the 3" lcd screen. However- beware of shipping! Although I ordered on 12/18, it did not ship until 12/21. Also, I payed for express shipment, and although the package was on a DHL truck ready for delivery, it was returned to the warehouse. Now it won't be here in time for Christmas! Never had a problem with Amazon before - very disappointed this time!

Easy to use, very light weight, great fuctions, the large LCD screen makes really easy to review the pictures...Overall it's one of the best purchases I've made in electronics.
So if you are looking to buy great fuctionality,quality in pictures and under $250 don't look any further the SD750 is what you want and need!

I purchased this for my mom, who is not very tech savvy. I tested it out before I gave it to her and when I plugged in the SD card, it didn't automatically start playing the pictures. I had to go through a couple screens and select the folder (even though there wasn't a folder on the SD card) that the pictures were in before it would start playing them. Seems to me that it would be smart of them to make the software recognize .jpg files so it would play automatically. I don't know too many grandmas and grandpas who would be comfortable going through what I had to go through to get this thing to work.

The instructions are unclear and the user interface very clunky. Do not buy for an older person (or a younger person, for that matter) who is unfamiliar with how to operate nonintuitive devices from manuals translated from another language. It might be OK if you set it up for the person and give it to him or her. I am not familiar with digital photo frames in general, but the screen does seem awfully dark. I presume I could make all the photos lighter, but it gets back to the question, how much trouble do you want to put someone to?

The frame itself is nice, the features it holds. The only issues that I have with it is the fact that you can't plug it into the computer via USB to add pictures onto the frame. Also it would be nice to have the option of auto play in the menu for when you turn on the frame. You just turn it on, then you have to hit play in order for it to play. Overall the frame is nice, have not gotten around to messing with the video or audio features.
