A 5.8 GHz analog cordless phone from Uniden, the EXI 5160 comes with a number of useful features and provides both a high-quality signal and reliable operation. Stylish and affordable, the EXI 5160 is a good choice for those uninterested in extraneous bells and whistles. By utilizing the less cluttered 5.8 GHz frequency, the EXI 51601 is able to offer clearer, more intelligible reception than traditional phones operating on crowded 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands. An autoscan features automatically detects the channel with the least interference.

Caller ID/call waiting compatible, the EXI 5160 can store up to 30 numbers in the caller ID memory, while the display-and-dial feature lets you easily scroll through the list of calls and dial with the touch of a button. Up to 10 memory locations are available for the most frequently dialed numbers, and a RocketDial feature allows you to dial the most important number simply by pressing the RocketDial button. Each memory location supports up to 20 digits for numbers which require chain dialing.

Handset and ringer volume controls allow you to easily adjust the phone's settings to your liking. A page button on the base makes finding a lost handset quick and painless, while the menu-driven handset LCD makes operation easy. The auto-talk function lets you answer calls simply by removing the phone from its cradle. A 32 digit redial button lets you easily call the last outgoing number, while both tone and pulse dialing modes are provided in case you need to switch to one or the other. Wall-mountable, the EXI 5160 is headset compatible and comes with a belt clip for hands-free operation. It also comes backed with a one-year warranty on both parts and labor.

The battery went on this phone before 6 months. Although the phone worked well when the battery retained a charge, I gave it a bad review because a phone should last longer than 6 months.

Sturdy no complaints phone..........2005-11-01

My friend presented me with this phone and ever since then, it has become a part or my family. It was a welcome break for me from the Panasonic model which had the echo issues. It was like I was recording my voice and listening to it. The EXI 5160 is certainly the best gift I could have got then. I was so impressed, that I bought a pair of cordless models for my parents to use in their home. They are happy as well.

My phone is a 5.8 GHz model, and is pretty clear over moderately longer distances from my apartment as well. I could be talking to someone over the phone, while I take the elevator to the lobby of my apartment. The model which my parents use is also very impressive. We could take one of the hand-sets to my neighbors house, and still be able to call the other hand-set.

I use a ear-phone connected to the hand-set and thanks to the attachment provided, I can hang the hand-set to my buckle, or belt and walk around talking to someone while I vacuum the floor, or do the laundry. The volume controls are also pretty effective. Battery life is impressive as well. I have talked for hours together, with still plenty of hours left on the battery charge. When the battery charge goes below a threshold, the phone gives a faint cooing bell which lets me know that it is time to stop and recharge - but believe me, I have encountered that need maybe only twice in the past year and a half, and I am a pretty heavy user of the phone when I am at home.

I am not going to delve into the features, since they have been covered in the 'An electronics fan' review well, as also in the 'Amazon product description'. They are all true to the fullest extent. Among the features listed, those that I found the most useful are:
*ear-phone compatible (I could just hang the handset on my belt and go ahead with my work while talking)
*Page handset
*Caller ID with menu (I had privacy manager turned on by my service provider, so I could screen the calls)
*Rocket dial (I could store my most-dialled number and call it with a single click of the button)
*Handset volume controls conveniently located
*Ringer volume/tone control
*10-name/number memory for personal contacts
*Previous caller ids are stored - I just have to scroll them to call them back

The other aspect that I liked is that I could operate the various controls with ease. Infact, I didn't even have to go through the manual for most of the features.

This phone is pretty good for the household. My friend bought it for around 40$. It sells around 31 in Amazon now. I think it is a good deal to buy it here. I would recommend it to my friends, and may be present it to someone as well.

the item was broken when i received it. i sent it back to amazon. i went to order another and you told me it was discontinued. I was very disappointed. the only good thing was that the return was easy and i received a refund in good time.
