1 out of 5 stars Doesn't work as advertised.......2007-12-18

My first test run of this item was copying an old VHS movie (out-of-print and unavailable on DVD) to DVD. I went through the process twice. Both times everything seemed to go well as far as there being no error messages displayed during the process, and everything going according to instructions. But both DVDs were blank or unreadable afterward (I tried on several DVD players, and on computers). It's going back.

3 out of 5 stars 525 Playback issues.......2007-12-11

I have mixed feelings after having purchased this DVD Combo this summer. Some DVDs play flawlessly, but others skip so badly they aren't viewable. Also, sometimes it's impossible to shut off subtitles. Even when going through the DVD menu, the subtitles will still play. You must click options on the player remote and shut it off that way. Several cases...the movie Spygame with Redford and Pitt. Skips and jumps through the hole flick, subtitles cannot be shut off at all. You can actually hear the DVD player head or something internal buzzing trying to do error correction. Transformers..first viewing was flawless. Now it skips towards the end of the movie. Last night wathced Talladega Nights, first 3/4 movie was fine. Got to last 30 minutes or so and and it started skipping. May wind up sending it in for repair. Spygame played flawlessly on my previous DVD only Panasonic.

4 out of 5 stars Great except for loud noise.......2007-12-10

I have been very satisfied with the playing and recording i have done with this machine. My only opjection is that when i hit the Stop after playing a dvd or vcr, a very loud noise come thru VERY ANNOYING. If i can't figure out why it is doing this, i plan to return it.

5 out of 5 stars Sony RDR-VX525 Excellent Product for Dubbing old home VHS tapes.......2007-09-21

My wife has been bugging me for the last year or so to convert all of our
VHS video tapes that I took of the kids to DVD's. Some are 20 years old
and though stored under ideal conditions could become fragile. I chose
this deck mainly because it was a Sony and I have had good luck with
their products.

I have not been disappointed. It has performed perfectly. Very easy to
use for dubbing. Once you have your DVD loaded and your VHS tape
loaded, it's push one button and it starts. It stops automatically after either
the DVD is full or the tape is empty, whatever comes first. You then
push a couple of buttons on the remote to "finalize" the disk and you are
done. On the high quality and standard modes the picture looks just like
the orginal.

This deck will also record TV shows and sourcing from video cameras.

Excellent value !

1 out of 5 stars Another bad experience.......2007-11-26

I purchased this VCR/DVD recorder for it's ability to dub family videos to DVD and to allow my children to watch old movies we have on tape. It began sporadically eating VHS tapes after 6 months of light use. When calling for warranty service (it has a decently long warranty, I will admit-1 year and 180 days P&L-much better than many electronics which offer 90 days), it took over an hour on hold just to get the address of a repair center and a work order number. Seems like they may be sorry for offering that warranty now. Of course you will need to pay to ship your unit in for repair out of your own pocket, not to mention the inconvenience of the shipping and being without a unit you paid good money for. If you purchase it, I highly recommend you keep your receipt and original packaging handy!

Sony isn't the Sony of old. My recent experience has been that their products just don't hold up like they used to. Caveat Emptor.

1 out of 5 stars bad experiences.......2007-11-19

One star only because it is not possible to rate the product lower.

I purchased this model DVD recorder/VCR combo locally on 11/17/2007. I attempted to install the product, but the machine would not display a menu or respond to commands from the remote. It also would not respond to some commands from the command buttons on the face of the recorder. I spent about an hour on the phone with Sony tech support, resulting in an offer to replace the item at no cost if I'd pay shipping to them. I opted to exchange it at the store at no cost to myself.

The second unit also would not display a menu. It responded to more commands at both the remote and on the machine itself, but refused to acknowledge the existence of channel 3. I skipped the middle man, went to a different store location on 11/18/2007, repeated the exchange.

The third unit had the same failure to display a menu and refused to acknowledge the existence of any channel but 127.

At this point, I accept my defeat at the hands of bad tech and will seek another product with the features I want.

Caveat emptor.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent unit for video tape to DVD conversions.......2007-05-29

Simple, easy, nice unit by Sony. Having many video tapes that needed to be transferred, I tried my computer but it was cumbersome to do the transfers. This allows easy transfer to DVD using any format including DVD-RW for recording tv shows. My only complaint is the unit does not allow you to name your DVD so when you pop in into your computer, it comes up with the stock Sony name. Minor complaint because you can still edit and name the video via the unit on screen so when it sees a DVD player, you know what is on the DVD. Let's hope the prices keep coming down!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent phone with head set socket.......2007-12-29

After looking at several speaker phones with the facility to plug in head sets, in shops and online, I can say that this is the best one available for this cost.

4 out of 5 stars Great phone, fantastic price.......2007-12-21

I needed a phone for the home office that was a speaker phone. I did not need a cordless unit. This does NOT need a power cord to use the speakerphone, only to use the memory dial. So I use it only with out the power cord and it works fine. The only issues ( and the only reason it is a 4 and not a 5) is that the speaker phone will not activate by the "button" on it's own with out power. You have to lift the handset and then push "speaker", then replace the handset, then it works normally. I would buy this again in an instant especially at the very reasonable price.

4 out of 5 stars Panasonic the way to go.......2007-12-10

If you are looking for a old fashion phone/with afew up to date features.
This is the phone. It has bigger buttons, speakerphone is great, for no hands talking. It has memory speed dial. The selling point for me was it has a ringer that can be turned off. Have a 3rd shift sleeper in the house, and we can turn it off. (It's in the bedroom)
The 2nd selling point, was it's corded. So if the power goes out, the phone will still work, unlike a portable.Service was very fast. Over all
good phone for the money, I have another Panasonic in the cellar, and it's over 15yrs old, and is simular to this one.

5 out of 5 stars Best speakerphone for the price........2007-11-06

I have been on the market for a decent phone for a while, and this one is simply the best bargain in ages.
Its styling looks outdated, but beside that, it's just what you'd want. Sound quality is ok, speaker is loud, volume easily adjusted, mute button accessible, just simple and functional.
I am a remote employee, and do a lot of conference calls, and this phone is just what I needed. The speakerphone function just works, which is quite remarkable, from my past experiences.
It requires batteries, however if you don't install them, the only thing you lose is the phonebook function (which I don't use). The speaker phone still works.
There is a headset plug, which I haven't tried yet, but it can only work better than any Plantronics junk (what a pure waste of money).
This is the type of product you just hope will stay around, and not be canned because it doesn't look good anymore... it just works!

    4 out of 5 stars Panasonic KX-TS105W.......2007-10-23

We recently purchased a Panasonic KX-TS105W to replace an aging but similar Durabrand (Wal-Mart) corded one line desk top speakerphone which had developed poor audio (line noise). We were specifically looking for a low cost no frills (no caller ID, no answer machine, no silly display, etc.) corded one line desktop speakerphone. The Panasonic KX-TS105W can be set on the desktop or wall mounted and comes with a special bracket for wall mounting. We have only owned the Panasonic KX-TS105W for about three weeks now but we are generally pleased with it. Its best features are the large buttons for dialing, redial feature, and of course the speaker phone. It also has features we probably will seldom use but can be handy including mute, hold, speakerphone volume control, handset/headset volume control, and 10 one-touch memory dial buttons.

Another key reason we purchased this model - and we researched a few low cost desktop speakerphones in this price range - was that the ringer volume can be set to high, low, or OFF! We prefer the off position as we have a wall phone in another room that is easily heard throughout our house and this phone is near my young sons room and we did not want it to ring. However, even if we could not hear the other phones ringer the Panasonic KX-TS105W has a red light that flashes when the phone is ringing - even with the ringer set to off so you can 'see' that a call is coming in - a nice feature. I dont recall another no frills one line desk top speaker phone that had a 'ringer off' feature.

Panasonic is usually a good brand name with decent quality/reliability but only time will tell how long it will last. We paid $33.53 with free shipping thru Amazon.com which we thought was a good price for what it is.
