Customer Reviews:
very poor quality.......2007-11-18
We bought this unit as a player for an extra room so it did not get used much. After only 4 months of minimal use, the player started shutting off a few seconds after power-up. It would also make a very loud gear on gear grinding noise. The unit was never abused and only played a handfull of movies before going into the trash. I supose you get what you pay for. :(
DVD Player won't stop.......2007-04-16
After using the DVD player for 4 months, the DVD player woul not stop spinning. This prevented the DVD from playing as well as unloading.
As the system plays only DVDs or VHS cassettes at one time, the VCR was also unusable.
Buy this player if you just want to play DVD/VHS formats.......2007-01-03
It doesn't support DIVX, MPEG or AVI files. Picture quality is ok. Would accept that it runs quite well for the price($49). I haven't heard any sound from VHS so far!
Will keep this one as a secondary unit. If you just want to play DVD/VHS tapes, go for this one.
In reviews i often do hear about remote problems. Well in this case, buttons in remote are quite simple and straightforward.
Reliable performance at a great price.......2006-09-06
When my husband and I were finally ready to move into the 21st century and purchase a DVD player for our living room, we weren't quite ready to give up on our older technology (ie, our VHS tapes), so this is the unit we purchased. We decided on Magnavox because the year before, we had first taken the DVD plunge by purchasing a small, even more inexpensive Magnavox DVD player (for my workout room) which had delivered flawless performance. So far, this product has met our expectations as well. Both DVD and VHS playback are excellent, and the simple features of the unit are easy-to-use. The one criticism we have of this product is the remote, which is quite confusing: it has too many tiny buttons, and the most-used items are not featured prominently enough. Otherwise, we are completely satisfied with our purchase, and we would definitely recommended this unit to others looking for a basic, affordable combo player.
Affordable, basic, gets the job done.......2006-08-13
I have a sister version of this DVD/VCR combo (MWD2205), but i do not find it here at amazon yet. However, this is a very close modle, if not a mis-labeled 2205 (looks identical). The going price new at a large discount chain (where this was purchased) is 69.87. Online, I have seen as low as 62.00 new. This has sparse information on the net, and Magnavox does not have it on their website yet. Let me give you the skinny on this player.
So far so good. It works well with my older very basic tv. I am using the coax cable in, with no disintigration in the picture, no RF modulator needed.
Features: Non-progressive scan DVD player, 4 head VCR with stereo out on back, mono inputs on the front. This has out connections for AV (stereo and video combined DVD/VCR) Second set dvd only out AV, and Digital Coaxial out DVD. Also has S-Video output and Component output. This does not have optical sound out.
DVD playback: great quality and sound, Video playback, excellent. Set up-very easy connection, easy to use remote and channel programing.
Downfalls: no optical out, non-progressive scan, mono front input.
Rating: 5out of 5 for value, this would make an excellent 2nd or third unit in a rec room, basement/bedroom, or for an RV or guest room. Also, it is simple enough to use that even folks that don't like fancy electronics cand be happy. I will likely purchase a second one for my mother.
Hopefully, these live up to the magnavox/phillips quality I've known before, and I have many good years of use out of this.
Update 7/29/2007: I have bought two of these for gifts over the past year, and all are working great, along with my original one. Excellent units for folks that just like to watch movies.

The remanufactured TRU-8885-3 cordless phone system offers an attractive bundle of features with room to grow. The system operates on the 5.8 GHz frequency, which is able to offer clearer, more intelligible reception than cordless phones working on the more-crowded 900 MHz or 2.4 GHz bands. More significantly, the system--which comes with three cordless handsets and a pair of spare charging cradles--can be expanded up to 10 total handsets using only a single phone jack, so you can place handsets in virtually any room in the home for the ultimate in telephone access. Ideal for large families or large households, the TRU-8885-3 keeps you connected at all times.
The phone's caller ID/call waiting function (subscription required) displays the name and number of an incoming caller even when you're on the phone with someone else. This function is particularly useful for busy phone users who anticipate important calls but don't want to interrupt their conversations unless absolutely necessary. In a related vein, the phone's base includes a 100-number caller ID log, while each handset stores up to 100 locations, so you can keep track of incoming calls and store the most important phone numbers for easy recall. And thanks to the display-and-dial function, all you have to do to call a stored number is scroll to the number and press the Talk button. Other handy dialing extras include 10 speed dial presets for quick calls to friends, family, and the local pizza joint and an alphabetical search feature that makes it easy to locate numbers stored in the internal memory.
The digital answering system, meanwhile, employs microchip technology--no cassettes or moving parts--to deliver crisp, easy-to-decipher messages time and again. Voice prompts help guide you through setup, while play/stop, skip, delete, and repeat keys make it simple to navigate through the messages. Other answering system features include 12 minutes of recording time, a four-minute maximum message length, memo and conversation recording, a new message indicator, and remote message retrieval.
New parents will appreciate the room/baby monitoring setting, which lets you hear audio from another handset location. And home business owners will dig the four-way conference calling, which links two cordless handsets with the base unit and an outside line. Add in easy-to-use menu-driven LCD displays and a page button that makes it a breeze to find a lost handset and you have a versatile phone system that excels in almost any household.
Additional functions include handset and base speakerphones, a DirectLink (walkie-talkie) mode, an integrated intercom, a handset-to-handset transfer function, and independent handset and ringer controls that let you adjust volume levels to your liking.
Finally, the TRU-8885-3's cordless handsets are compatible with separately sold headsets for hands-free communication. And as with all Uniden remanufactured phones, the wall-mountable system is backed by a 30-day limited warranty.
What's in the Box
Base, three cordless handsets, two extra charging cradles, three belt clips, three battery packs, three AC adapters, telephone cord, user's manual.
Customer Reviews:
My Favorite cordless phone.......2007-08-31
I love this phone and can hardly imagine any other. I live out in the country with 3 acres of land and can use it anywhere in my yard. When buzy I just use the speaker phone or the Headset. I also put the base or handset by the radio or TV and take the other handset out with me and still listen using the "Room Monitor".
I also love checking massages from the handset. The handset displays the time as well as caller ID.
The Direct Link is a fantastic feature; When away from home, just give a handset to each person in the party and contact them by pressing 1-9, without using cell phone minutes.
I love this phone so much and currently owned this model but with only 2 handsets and purched this one with 3 handsets.
In my opinion, finding a phone better would be practically an infaninate impossibility.
great system.......2007-03-12
This is a great system for the price. The room intercom and the choices that you have are great. I had little idea about phones so I was pleasantly suprized.
TRU-8885-3.......2007-01-10
Item works great, I only have a few issues. Once in awhile I get slight static on the reciver phone and when I add new phones the style/functions are not the same so all of my phones are not the same. I am constantly having to look for functions.
Uniden TRU-8885-3 5.8 GHz Digital Cordless Phone System.......2007-01-09
I admit it; I was looking for a cheap home phone system and realized I might get what I paid for. The refurbished Uniden TRU-8885 3 handset system filled the bill of being cheap. After setting it up, I was quite impressed by all its features. The only thing I don't like is not being able to delete caller id's on all the handsets from the base unit. That's a minor thing. Overall, I think I ended up with quite a bargain.
Nice features, but letters rub off handsets!.......2006-12-31
I purchased this phone along with additional handsets from Costco and other retailers over a year ago. I moved to this phone to get away from my previous 2.4GHz system that was interfering with my camera system in my house. It has a lot of nice features, like individual phone conferencing/paging, distinctive rings pre caller ID, remote notification of a message on the cordless and remote playback of the message(s) from a cordless handset. The sound quality is very good, but not great. You can also plug in a headset if you have one to go hands free, but still private. The handsets as well as the base station can also act as a speakerphone. I use that a lot with the cordless handsets when I get placed on hold with a bank or tech support. I would have rated the system 4 stars for sound quality and reasonable, but not great, battery life. I cut the system by another star down to 3 because the lettering for the various functions like caller ID, etc. rubs off with normal use.
