Even though the battery lasts a long time (500-600 photos) a spare is a must on a long outing. If you want to keep shooting, download, view pics get a 2nd battery.

A good reliable battery. Always use the battery from the original manufacture of the camera (Olympus). They last longer! I wish they had a Compact quick charger for these batterys. They are a little hard to come by locally. Don't buy clones!

I have done much research and reading on this camera before pulling the trigger and I'm very happy with decision so far - coming from an P/S camera - this camera does required some time to know all of the many features that this camera has - but once you have that "right settings for your shots" - the pictures will be amazing.

Essentially a necessity for a fast E3.......2007-12-01

The E3's fast focus, rapid cycle time, SWD focus system all consume power - the HLD-4 like its previous battery holders allows you to parallel two BLM-1's Olympus BLM-01 Lithium-ion Rechargeable Battery for C7070, C8080, E1, E300 & E500 Digital Cameras for twice the shooting time, exposures, or simply a longer timeout so your camera is always ready. You can also charge one battery while still using the camera on the other one if you charge before they both go dead. As before, you get the portrait shutter button which I do use when holding 90 degree rotation. One difference is this can use 6 AA's which is a first for me personally. Olympus's glossy sheet quotes that this will improve focus times - this is generally due to the paralleling of the two batteries and thus the higher voltage when charging flash, running focus motor, logic, etc. 6AA's @ 1.2 V (assuming NIMH) is 7.2V in line with the lithium, or 9V using 1.5V alkaline. There is always a debate here because alkaline cells quickly develop internal impedance and thus don't give you 9V through the life of the cell, while NiMH cells do run 1.2 V or higher for the useful life of the cell. Some experimentation is needed to compare actual voltage delivered to the camera with 2 li-ion vs 6 NIMH cells in the HLD-4. The higher the voltage under load, the faster the camera will operate. In either case, I'm sure the power flexibility it adds will please all E3 shooters. At 199, I'm a bit shocked (no pun intended) at the price as I just paid 84 bucks for my last HLD-3 for the E300 back I picked up off ebay for $170. Getting 2 additional megapixels is not cheap if you want to run the bleading edge; all E3 owners will still find Olympus hardware a great value compared to Canon equivalent backs & lenses as they always have.

If you are buying this product for the bag alone, I suggest trying it out in the store first. It has plenty of padding and pockets but it does not have easy, quick access to the main camera body area and it is rather heavy once all the equipment is loaded, especially for an over the shoulder strap bag. If you utilize the accessories that come with this package, it makes this the best deal on the internet and in town! I loved the compact, easy-to-use tri-pod, extra battery, and the card reader was a great for downloading pictures to my Mac.

Great spare batteries.......2007-12-21

I bought these batteries as spares for my Olympus E-510 DSLR. I was pleasantly surprised to see that the capacity of these batteries was better than the one that came with the camers - 1600 mAh vs 1500 mAh. Also, they are quite inexpensive compared to Olympus batteries. I also received 2 different mini tripods with my order - another pleasant surprise!

I was pleasantly surprised with this product from Accessory Genie. The batteries are 1600 mAh while the Olympus battery that came with my E-510 is 1500 mAh. I was also pleased that the order came with 2 mini tripods, the one shown and another flex leg mini. I don't know whether this is always the case but it sure was a nice surprise. The order arrived on time and I'm happy with Accessory Genie's service and I would buy from them again.
