Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Great Product.......2007-10-24

Good blu-ray player would recommend it to anyone. A little slow on loading times but noting to be picky about. Easy setup has plenty of audio options you can switch from dts-hd to regular dts if your reciever doesn't support newer formats.

3 out of 5 stars Great DVD Quality Very Slow Responsiveness.......2007-08-23

Plays Blu Ray beautifully but seems unresponsive at times take for example when I insert a disc, then it starts to read, then I select to eject it or stop it ignores my request until it has fully read the dvd.

5 out of 5 stars Impressed.......2007-06-21

This is indeed a very fine Blu-ray player. The machine has the stability/reliability of a regular DVD player, and it also loads pretty quick compared to other hi def players. Excellent picture quality too.

The previously review mentions that new 10a model makes this one obsolete, but the 10a is the exact same machine as the 10 - it just comes with the new 2.0 firmware, 5 free movies, and and MSRP of $599.

3 out of 5 stars Good but obsolete.......2007-06-02

Due to be replaced late summer with DMP-BD10A. Next gen player at $600.

5 out of 5 stars Panasonic Blu-Ray is great.......2007-02-25

I have recently purchased the Panasonic Blu-Ray Player, and have been blown away by its picture and sound. Right off the bat, I downloaded and upgraded the firmware, carefully following the instructions, and it greatly improved the boot up and load speeds for discs. Aside from an poorly-designed cheap-feeling remote, Panasonic has really produced a stand out product here.

My journey into the world of Blu-Ray began with a PS3. I purchased a 60GB PS3 initially to play games and movies, thinking that it was a great bargain - $600 for a fully featured Blu-Ray player and game system. The PS3 locked up three times during playback of "The Guardian". The add-on remote for the PS3 is Bluetooth, which otherwise would be great, but could not be programmed into my Universal Remote, and was extremely counterintuitive to use. There was no upconversion of my existing DVDs (I have a lot, so this was really a downer). The game on the PS3 that I was interested in purchasing (Resistance: Fall of Man) was a 720p title, and so it downconverted to 480p on my 2 year old 73" CRT HDTV.

The online service for PS3 was woefully inadequate compared to the XBOX 360 - very little of interest to download in movies or games.

So I returned the PS3 and bought the Panasonic. I didn't feel that sinking in my stomach at having to return something cool - it was much more like a relief to unload this turkey.

I fretted a little at the cost of the Panasonic, but elected to purchase it after seeing a demo, and knowing that I had a 30 day return window. I hooked it up in less than an hour, and fired it up. A big smile attached to my face when I started watching "Blackhawk Down" on the Panasonic. The image and sound were stellar. Same with "Flyboys". Same with "Stealth". Popped in the "Fifth Element" and expected a crappy picture, but except for some very early shots having lots of dirt, the rest of the film's picture quality handily blew away my Superbit version of the film. I also have the HD-DVD add on to the XBOX 360, and I can not see any appreciable difference between a well mastered HD-DVD (I would cite "Superman Returns" as an example) and a well mastered Blu-Ray.

Have not looked back on the decision with regret - only joy.

Pros:
Astounding Picture and Sound Quality
Great Upconversion of Regular DVDs
True Theater Experience
After upgrading the firmware (1.4), much quicker boot up and load times
Worth twice the price of the PS3

Cons:
Remote should be lighted for this many $$$
Jog wheel TOO sensitive

    Amazon.com Review

If you don't happen to own a luxury car with a built-in navigation system, and you want to drive from point A to point B without having to look up addresses on the internet and print your results--or even worse, pull over and ask directions--the Via Michelin X-930 could be what you're looking for. Its compact size, easy setup, no-learning-curve operation, and reliability make it an ideal travel companion for any drive you can't make on auto pilot.

The device weighs only 4.7 ounces, making it great for travel by car, foot, or bicycle. It comes with all the mounting hardware you need, as well.

The XP-930 puts the latest navigation technology in the palm of your hand. View larger.
    Design
The XP-930's basic black and gray plastic exterior suggests its straightforward mode of operation. A touchscreen dominates the front of the device, and serves as the main user interface. You can easily adjust the screen's brightness from the settings menu, or switch between day and night modes. On the right are four buttons that link you directly to central functions: Home (back to the main menu), History (your last 10 destinations), Current Location, and Points of Interest. Two buttons on the left control volume for voice instructions. On the back is a slot for the stylus, meant for the touchscreen interface. On top you'll find an on/off switch, a lock to prevent you (or your kids) from making unwanted changes while en route, a headphone mini jack, and an SD card slot. The device comes with an SD card containing a map of the 48 contiguous U.S. states (sorry Alaska and Hawaii). On the bottom you'll find a mini USB port (as found on most digital cameras), which handles all charging as well as connecting the device to your PC.

    Setup
Getting the XP-930 up and running is pleasantly simple. After inserting the SD card, the device guides you through the few steps required for basic setup: choosing an interface language, location, and 2D or 3D map display. You can then mount it in your car with the sturdy windshield mounting system or adhesive dashboard mount. The supplied 12 volt charger keeps the unit powered while you are on the go. Satellite connections are made with the newer SiRF Star III technology, which is very snappy, requiring only a few seconds for the device to locate you and plot your course.

    Interface
Apart from the four side buttons mentioned above, all interaction with the X-930 is via the touchscreen. Most applications can be accessed by fingertip, although, unless your fingers are very small and pointed, you will want to use the stylus for a few interactions that require a finer touch--such as adjusting the screen brightness. The home screen has only three icons: "Plan Your Journey," "Navigate To," and "Settings." Submenus are intuitive and easy to negotiate. We found it a breeze to adjust all settings just by following the menu icons, allowing us to leave the user guide at home.

Six different search methods at your fingertips.

Zoom in and move the map with ease.

Search states and towns for points of interest.
The heart of the X-930 is its navigation system, which allows you to input a specific address, search for a point of interest, select a destination from the map, or choose a travel goal based on your saved destinations or navigation history. Once again, complex instructions are not needed, as the unit intuitively guides you through the steps required to tell it where you want to go.

    Navigation
The X-930 includes optional voice instructions to guide you if you don't want to take your hands off the wheel. We found this system worked quite well, being warned of upcoming turns 0.1 miles in advance. Maps can be displayed in either two or three dimensions, depending on whether you feel more comfortable with a traditional flat map or like to see your changing position in 3D. Either display variation makes it quite clear where you are, where you are going, and provides a big red arrow to tell you when a turn is coming up. If you happen to miss a turn, the unit quickly recalibrates your position in relation to your destination and gets you back on track.

You can also navigate directly to a point of interest. The X-930 comes with an extensive list of restaurants, parks, businesses, etc. Want to find the nearest McDonalds or Starbucks to your current location? Just grab it from the drop down list and you are on your way. We found not only major chains, but local establishments as well. In addition you can download more points of interest and install them on the device with the included "Navigation" software (PC only).

The only real gripe we had with the X-930 concerns inputting and editing. To enter the name of a city or address requires a keyboard that appears on the touchscreen. However, rather than a QWERTY keyboard, you'll find a grid of letters in alphabetic order. Being used to keyboards and thumbboards we found this system a bit slow and awkward. In addition, if you make a typo there is no way to edit without erasing all letters following your error. If your were, for example, to type "Philladelphia" the device would not find the city you are looking for, nor offer an alternative spelling. You would have to return to the keyboard screen and delete all letters after the superfluous L.

    Customer Reviews:

    2 out of 5 stars unintuitive.......2008-01-01

Out of the box - it hasn't been easy to figure out how to get around. I haven't had time to read the manual but I never had to with my Garmin. It didn't charge in the cigarette lighter on my rental car and left me stranded in Dallas - Lost. I had to call for help. The map did not reflect road changes that were made at least 10 years ago. Out of date cartography!-- Frustrating. Whole freeways missing.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent .......2007-12-31

I was looking for a user friendly inexpensive GPS and I am so glad I chose this one. I like it so well it's the second one I purchased. I gave this one as a Christmas gift.
    Happy in California..

5 out of 5 stars Very surprised how good this GPS is........2007-12-31

I read all the reviews of this GPS unit before I bought it, and I have to admit that I was on the fence when I purchased it. But, this GPS unit is perfect for what they are used for, which is getting you where you want to go. My wife and I went to very remote hills in NY, on roads that are hardly even existing, and the GPS picked up everyone and sent us in the right direction. It doesn't have all the extra things like MP3 and so forth, but it's a really nice product. I also like that you can put it on pedestrian mode and walk with it. The Amazon description lists this GPS at 2.2 pounds, which is obviously a typo. The unit weights about as much as a business card. I also read that there isn't an option for night mode to dim the brightness, which is also incorrect. The option is right there in the main menu.

All in all this a great little GPS and I would recommend it to anyone. You certainly can't beat the value for the money. Plug it in and start using it right away. Oh yes, and there is a review on here that states it takes a long time for the GPS to pick up its start up location, which is not true. If you don't mind waiting for about 10 seconds, you should be fine.

    1 out of 5 stars Bletch.......2007-12-31

It's hard to use, resets or turns off while in use, though plugged in the charger or recently unplugged from charger. Unreliable for directions. Thumbs down. Save up and get the Garmin which I got the opportunity to use and loved. Purchased the garmin for a few other people who loved it as well/

    3 out of 5 stars Works fine.......2007-12-29

Menu is a little clunky. It fits will in our car. We live in Boston, so it does not always know the easiest way to get around.
