Canon Remote Switch.......2007-11-11

The Canon Remote Switch arrived in excellent condition. Attaching it is not quite as easy as some, but it works just fine after you become familiar with it. It is not cordless, so it requires that you be relatively close to the camera to operate it. It does prevent camera shake. It serves my purposes for purchasing it. I will probably buy a cordless remote eventually.

The Canon RS-80N3 remote switch is a must-have item for
much of my photo work. Using the remote switch helps to
eliminate camera-shake when slower shutter speeds are used
and the camera is mounted on a sturdy tripod. This remote
is well built, reliable, and easy to use. Knowing that my photos will be TACK-SHARP more than justifies its cost for me.

overpriced but worth it.......2007-10-10

I ended up buying this remote switch after having bought a cheaper offbrand which didn't work well at all. I have a 30D and the off brand gets stuck in the camera port because it's entirely made of plastic. The metal connection on the RS-80N3 makes for a more secure connection and (more importantly) a hassle-free removal.

Having said that, it is overpriced (thus 4/5 stars).

Awesome Wireless Remote.......2007-11-30

I bought this prior to my vacation in the Big Apple, and I am so happy I did. Finally, I get to compose my own pictures AND be in them at the same time! Coupled with my Joby Gorilla Tripod, I was able to get awesome shots at night in Time Square, and evening shots in Central Park. It also came in handy with family portraits with the in-laws. No more running back to set the 10sec timer, just autofocus and "click!".

Works great on a Canon 40D........2007-10-03

Scott Kelby ("The Digital Photography Book") recommends a cable release used in conjunction with a tripod in order to get sharper photos. A cable release is also a must for taking pictures of fireworks so you can time the shutter correctly while watching the sky instead of the viewfinder.

I didn't want to spend $50 on the Canon RS-80N3, especially since it wouldn't work for my Rebel XTi. This release cable is half the cost, and works great. Might be nice to have the model with the longer cable in order to take some candid shots of birds, etc.

I purchased the MA-A remote switch about two years ago and it worked fine for several months on my EOS 20D. I then took the switch on a photo workshop in the Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park in Utah. The wind is always blowing there and very fine grains of sand are always airborn near the ground. I was there for about 30 minutes concentrating on some macro shots when I could feel the switch operating like it was gritty when I pressed the button. It was only a couple of minutes later it stopped working completely. I had to use the camera timer for slow shutter shots the rest of the day.

When I got back to the motel, I took the switch apart and could see the sand between the switch contacts. I was able to clean it out and the switch worked again. I later purchased the Canon RS-80N3 and could see a significant difference in build quality. I have used the Canon switch up until it was lost on a recent outing. Fortunately, I still had the old MA-A switch in the bag and was able to use it for several days. It made a great backup switch but I am going to purchase another Canon RS-80N3 remote switch since it is a better built product. I believe the RS-80N3 will hold up better in an environment that is not clean and dry. Once again you get what you pay for.

Good workable.......2007-07-21

The only issue I have with this item is the connection to the camera is a bit akward, the end piece points to the back and can get in the way of handeling the camera. But works good, I took multi exposures at a time during fireworks and it did great

POS for the EOS.......2007-07-16

I would expect a Canon 5D accessory to be made better than this. Then, on its maiden voyage during the 4th of July fireworks, the stupid piece of snot (POS) didn't work. Thinking maybe I had to put a battery in it or something, I tried to open the case. That was impossible, and so now it's in the trash. I'll have to pay more now to get the cable release that actually works, even if it gets bad reviews on its quality too. I can't figure out how it could be compatible with the 5D and then not function.

shockingly bad.......2006-12-23

Although this only costs ten dollars less than the Canon version, you would think it ought to be sold for far less. I was absolutely shocked at how cheaply made this is. I just opened it up and it already feels as though it is going to fall apart. I am deeply disappointed in this product.
