Its a great DVD player. I have never had any issues with it since the day I bought it. The picture quality is awesome. The remote control that comes with the player is very easy to use and setting this player up is a breeze.
The only drawback is that it cant play CD-R, CD-RW.

Good Bang for the Buck.......2002-03-15
I bought this DVD player largely on the reviews found here on Amazon and on the fact that we recently bought a Toshiba TV and wanted a player from the same manufacturer. Setup was quite easy. Picture with component video cabling is remarkable; sound is also very good. The two trays are very helpful for watching movies in serial (such as Superman I & II) or 2-disk sets in which one has the movie and the other special features. I found the remote to be fairly easy to use, if a little on the small side.
Its main drawback is the lack of CD-R, CD-RW, and other home-recorded digital media playback. If you mix/record a lot of your own CDs then you'll want to hang on the your CD-player or look elsewhere for your DVD player.
Good for what it does, bad for what it doesn't.......2002-03-01
I purchased this DVD player based on the quality of Toshiba's DVD mechanism. The player plays DVD-ROM and CD-ROM discs very well. Quality is present and performance is nearly flawless. If these are the only requirements you have, this unit is an excellent choice.
BUT there are problems. I had hoped to be able to play my own CD-R recordings. No dice. Toshiba includes a disclaimer in the manual about pirated recordings and their choice not to support recordable discs (at least in this model.) So, if you are creating legitimate recordings, you are still out of luck. Another problem, in my opinion, is the warranty. One year on parts, 90 days on labor. Sorry, but if there's a problem, I expect it to be corrected at NO CHARGE under warranty (including labor.)
I am afraid, this may be my last Toshiba purchase.

I wanted this for my bedroom and let me tell you I can just relax now with the remote and double disk intake, I get up half the time to change the disk... This DVD player is extreamly easy to hook up and to work... (Not only children can run this one) hahahahahahaha... (JOKE)... I really like this gift...

My SD2700 has always worked fine. My only complaint is that it will not play the DVD+R format (probably because it was built before that was invented?) so I have to go buy DVD-R and rerecord my home movies onto that.

We had this dvd play for less than a year and had to send it out to be repaired. The audio completely went out. About 6 to 8 months later, it went out again. Before that, if you could get the darn thing to turn on, you couldn't get it to shut off. It was a total waste of money and I have totally lost faith in Toshiba dvd players. The next Toshiba we got was the same way, and not even the same model. Don't waste your money!

Like a lot of the other reviews the sound went dead and nothing we tried has helped. This thing must have been built with junk components. How else can one explain the high frequency of defective players. Toshiba just lost another customer.

Add me to the list of poor [people] who owned this product for less than 2 years (but just long enough for the warranty to run out) before expiriencing a complete breakdown. While watching a typical no-thrills DVD I was suddenly left with no sound. Imagine my joy. Choose another unit unless you plan on upgrading within the 2-year lifecycle that many of us have already discovered.

I have owned my DVD player for less than 2 years, and this weekend it died. I pushed the stop button and everything locked up. I can now join the mass of people that have had nothing but trouble with this unit. Joy for me!

Didn't Even Last a Year.......2007-09-23
Do not buy this machine. We bought this as a gift back in 2001 and it didn't even last a year. We bought "Hyundai HDP-550S DVD Player" for ourselves at a much lower price in 2002 and it is still going strong. We only use our DVD player to watch movies and do not use any of the other features (zoom, slow, etc.).

I purchased it becuse of the name, but that was obviously the only good thing about it. I realize it wasn't a lot of money, but I expected it to last more that a few months. I had to exchange it for another, and that one lasted about a year.
Worst DVD Player ever made.......2005-02-15
I grant this DVD player does have a good picture. But it has a few problems with freezing and sticking video picutures. Glinches in it plays a DVD. Or not even able to read the DVD it self. I blamed it on the DVD's them self. But it turned out to be the DVD player. I also have problems with it not playing DVD. I put the DVD's in this Toshiba and they would not play. I took them to my neighbors and put the same DVD in their DVD player and they played. I would think twice on buying this DVD player again. I cannot even rate it for the problems it has casued. Also the DVD Player is under a class action suit becasue of these reasons.

The wrong kind of capacitors are installed on C927, C928, C929. The sound will not work because of this. It is fixable and the fix is cheap if you know what your doing.

Had this DVD player since 2003 or so, and NEVER had a problem. Audio works great, video looks spectacular. It DOES in fact play recorded CDs and DVD+/-Rs, at least 8x recorded with toast. Don't let a few bad reviews ruin a good products reputation.

Yup, had the same audio faintness problem, just after the warranty ended. I ended up hooking it to an external audio amplifier and running it that way fine.

I've had this player for about 2.5 years and have had only minor problems. Then, yesterday, the sound disappeared. I tried re-connecting all of the cables to no avail. I looked at the reviews today and realize I am not the only one to have this problem.

I seem to be luckier then other people. My audio stopped working after I had the unit for 2 years and 4 months. At the time I purchased it, there were no reviews about this problem, otherwise I would have not purchased it. The audio problem seems to be a chronic problem.

This DVD player has worked great for three years. EXCEPT it is supposed to play CD-RW'S and DVD-R that are recorded and does NOT!! For this reason, I would not recommend this DVD player.
