It also enables you to access MP3 digital audio and JPEG image files using the multiformat memory card reader. On the DVD side, the 10-bit digital-to-analog video converter is combined with carefully selected analog components to ensure accurate reproduction of the original DVD image. The EZ View letterbox eliminator enables the removal of the black letterbox bars on 4:3 TV screens with the push of a button on the remote control, while the Motion Zoom feature allows extreme magnification of selected screen areas, without distortion even as the movie is playing. With the 2x speed audio playback, you can easily find the exact moment on the disc that they are searching for.
The 4-head VCR offers a hi-fi audio system and an MTS stereo tuner system that deliver Dolby Surround compatible sound from encoded videotapes and stereo broadcasts. The digital autotracking feature automatically adjusts video-head position for optimum quality (manual adjustments are also available). The HQ and Luminance Noise Reduction (YNR) circuitry improve signal-to-noise ratio by as much as 1.5 dB for a signification improvement in playback quality. Jet Picture Search allows clear viewing of video at an incredible 7x normal play for SP tapes, and 21x SLP recordings.
The DVD-V4800's analog L/R audio terminals provide Dolby Surround-encoded audio for superb stereo sound, or complete surround sound when connected to a Dolby Pro Logic receiver. The Phantom Surround Processor can be used to deliver a rich simulated surround-sound effect through just two speakers, and is ideal when the DVD-V4800 is connected to a traditional 2-channel stereo television.
The component-video output is the ideal way to connect to either your analog and digital televisions. The DVD-V4800 also has 2 composite-video inputs (1 front, 1 rear), 1 composite-video out, 1 RF out, and 1 coaxial digital and 1 optical digital audio out.
The DVD-V4800 is compatible with DVD movie and CD audio discs, as well as CD-R/RW discs with MP3 digital audio and JPEG image format files. The multiformat memory card reader is compatible with Memory Sticks, SmartMedia, Secure Digital (SD), and MultiMedia (MMC) cards. Now you can show off your latest digital photos by simply inserting your camera's memory card into the DVD-V4800's card slot.

Progressive scanning: Progressive scanning displays all the horizontal lines of a picture at one time, as a single frame. A progressive scanning DVD player converts the interlaced (480i) video from DVD into progressive (480p) format for connection to a progressive display. It dramatically increases the vertical resolution.
Component video: Video signals with three channels of separate information that make up the picture. There are a couple types of component video, such as R/G/B and Y/Cb(Pb)/Cr(Pr).

Samsung has the worst customer support I have ever used. There are 3 MAJOR issues for this DVD player.
1) Cannot copy DVD's onto VHS.
2) Cannot play some international DVDs even though they claim that it can play DVD, DVD-RW etc.
3) Digital Optical output sound doesn't work properly.
I would not recommend anyone to buy Samsung DVD players unless they are given away for free.
One thing to keep in mind is to fast forward the DVD movie, you will have to press down and hold the FastForward button for about 3-5 secs to FF.

So, as soon as I get it home, I only get sound from the right channel when using a DVD, but both when playing a VHS. So that means there's an internal fault somewhere with the DVD player. Also, I've never seen a DVD player where pressing Menu while a DVD is playing, brings you to the system menu, NOT the DVD's menu. That is ridiculous. My unit is definitely going back, and will be replaced with a Sony or something else NON-Samsung.

I actually have an earlier model Samsung DVD player, and it, along with other Samsung models at the time, had a horrible skipping problem on many DVDs. Samsung's support was almost non-existant -- I found out there was a firmware upgrade for the player, but not through their website (where I couldn't find any help whatsoever), but through a friend with the same problem. HOWEVER, the firmware upgrade did not resolve the problem, and the last I heard, there was a class action suit filed here in Pennsylvania (which I received an invitiation to be a part of, but could not participate in, I think because I no longer had the receipt). Considering their lackluster customer support, I would advise anyone against buying any DVD player from this company. Players are much cheaper nowadays anyway, and you can get an excellent Sony or Toshiba for a modest price.

I bought the unit a few days ago and Works great.
DVD player plays all formats as mentioned. I have some CD-R/VCD/CD-RW from different countries and it could play it all.
VCR is pretty good too, however some noise through the coaxial.
Memory reader is a cool feature, reads Sony Memory Stick well. Slideshow is a good feature.
Universal Remote is nice, operates TV/VCR/DVD as well.
Compared to V4600 reviews, I think Samsung has done a good job with this model. It is compact and slick compared to some other brands.
Issue: "Memory Stick Pro" could not read Sandisk 256mb. Also, photoviewer in general is very slow.
This is a great value for money !
DVD player broke after 3 weeks use.......2004-12-13
This is a piece of junk, in my opinion. I bought it because it was on sale at Best Buy for $140. I was excited because it was an early Christmas present for the kids, from their grandma.
I did not research it because I knew of others who had Samsung products, and never really had a problem. I really made a mistake in not researching, I usually do.
After three weeks, the DVD player broke, with the DVD now stuck inside- the VCR works, but there is a mind-altering flashing on the screen. My sister-in-law later informed me that she had this exact player- she bought hers in June. Her DVD player also broke. She researched and found that this is a very COMMON problem with this particular model. I wish I had known!
Please buy something else and don't waste your money!

Great DVD burner.......2007-12-30
I've burned over 200 DVDs with this drive, and had only about 5 not come out properly. Usually the problems stem from the software you use generating a bad .iso file, or failing to turn off anti-virus scans for the duration of burning. DVD Shrink and DVD Decrypter work great with it, but I've had some problems with old Roxio software (easy Media creator 8.) Using Roxio to burn the dual-layer disks failed, however, using the same .ISO file worked when DVD Decrypter was the software used to burn. (So, that proves it was the software that was the problem, not the drive.)
I have not used the free Nero software that came with it, however, I don't understand the people that complain about this free bonus software. It's kind of like complaining about the free fortune cookie at the end of a good Chinese meal. If you don't like it, use other software!
The hardware here is great; I've used only Memorex CDs, DVDs, and DL-DVDs and had very few problems.

Cant beat this drive for the price. The only downfall is amazons slow shipping. After waiting a week I got an email that it was on back order and it took about 4 or 5 days after that to get.
Superb DVD Recorder.......2007-11-07
I've been using this drive for more than 7 months now, and I don't have any single complaint about it. It's fast, reliable, and has a cool design, although I don't get to see it cause my HP computer case covers the drive with it's bay door (The blue light is cool tough).
I have yet to burn a dual layer DVD, but the speed is good for single-layer ones. Also, I was even able to read some scratched DVD's my old DVD-Rom would not read.
And the price is excellent. A great choice for an internal DVD burner.

This is a wonderful DVD/CD burner. I recently installed it and burned many discs. They all work great. It is also very fast and doesn't make the CD's get hot, just warm. I would highly recommend it if you need one.
