Whether you're traveling cross-country or want to show your DVDs at a friend's house across town, the Mintek MDP-1770 portable DVD player is an all-in-one, easy-to-carry entertainment solution. It plays DVDs, Video CDs (VCDs), CDs (including recordable and rewriteable CDs), MP3 discs, and Kodak Picture CDs, and features a bright, 7-inch TFT (active-matrix) color LCD display in 16:9 widescreen format. It can be connected to a television, and when connected to a compatible audio system can bring the soundtrack to life with Dolby Digital audio.
Designed for easy use on the road, the MDP-1770 includes a high-capacity rechargeable lithium battery pack, a car-power adapter, and an AC power adapter. Its built-in antishock system helps prevent annoying interruptions. It features both built-in stereo speakers and a headphone jack for private listening (headphones not included), as well as a wireless remote control for use across the room, such as when connected to a TV. With the unit connected to an amplifier, you can use it as a karaoke machine (with karaoke discs). It supports multiple audio language tracks and multilingual subtitles, and lets you select from multiple camera angles on DVDs that give you those options. Among its other key features are six-mode picture zoom, four-speed slow motion, fast forward and reverse search, chapter preview ("digest") mode, random play, and repeat play (useful for trade shows or demonstrations).
The MDP-1770 gives you S-Video and composite video output, analog stereo and optical digital (S/PDIF) audio output, and a headphone jack.

Avoid Mintek.......2007-12-16
Mintek has no customer service. Sent a Dvd player to them for minor repair, after 2 months they wanted $60 to repair. I refused and they sent back the player totally disabled. Do not buy from this company!
Great value, nice little DVD player!.......2007-08-24
*****
For the money, this DVD player is very nice---note that it is more than just a player---it is a kit! It comes with all accessories, cords, batteries, etc. so you only need to spend the purchase price. This was nice for me because I would have no idea which accessories to buy. It even comes with 2 headsets and a Y adapter!
Many functions run off of the player itself, and the rest off the remote. The fast forward and fast backward are only on the remote not the player, but the chapter forward and backward are on the player. I am satisfied with how things are set up. It is the first DVD player I've ever had, and I think it makes an excellent entry-level player. I really wanted to buy something sturdy but inexpensive, and this one fit the bill; I have heard other reviewers of other DVDs complain about what is on the remote and what is on the player, but I'm not picky.
One fun feature it has is the fast forward and backward multiply each time you hit it (first time is 2X, second time is 4X, etc.---all the way up to 16X). I like this because with the subtitles on, I can fast forward through boring parts of DVDs and still quickly read what, if anything, is going on.
It has many more features than I would ever use. The picture quality looks great to me. The battery life is supposed to be 3 hours, and so far, that seems about right.
I would recommend this DVD player kit for families with children (who will be hard on the player, so you wouldn't want to spend a fortune on it!) and entry-level purchasers.

Used for years, still clicking along..........2007-01-07
RELIABILITY
Purchased this in mid-2004 -- used for lots of car trips, airplane trips, and motels. Still works. This is quite a robust little DVD player, and a darn good buy.
Black screen problem -- it seemed to get a bit confused; turn it off, switch to the output type you want (onscreen is 'tft', a different display is 'video'). The black screen problem went away. Note, even when the screen is black, you can see the image in strong light, it's just that the light behind the screen is not on because it thinks you're watching a different TV.
It starting making clicking noises a couple of years ago as the disk spins around. Obviously, this is not a harbinger of doom, as it has still been running strong.
I had problems with it recognizing a disk, once. Turns out there was condensate on the lens, so I dried it and the problem was again resolved.
FEATURES
Pretty well listed everywhere else. Yes the image is good. Yes the sound is better through earphones. Battery life is 2.5 hours...still, after 2 years.
I hate to even give this 1 star - 5 Weeks to Fix It ??????.......2006-03-29
I purchased this as a gift. Christmas day we had to call Mintek. It seized up. The tech lady said "just take your finger and slide the optics back and forth a few times... that usually fixes it.." Well.. I'm no genius on laser optics and all the gearing involved, but that does not sound like a great "fix". I have been on the phone with these folks numbers of times. It continues to seize up, refuse to turn on and assorted other problems. Now I have sent it to them to replace. Mintek lady calls me and says they just received it and will send it back in (5) FIVE weeks. I yelled "put a new one in the mail and send it." No... evidently it comes in with a "Batch" and can only go out with a "Batch". Evidently Mintek only ships stuff out every 5 weeks of so. I have visions of young Chinese with their fingers on the optics sliding them back and forth....
Bottom line... If you have a choice. Choose something else!!!
Been there, done that.......2006-03-12
I don't have the space to explain all the places this thing has been. True it does pause on some titles, it does refuse to play on occasion. I bought it in Oct 03 before going to Afghanistan. While I was there I used it virtually everyday for 9 months. I brought it back home and used it in the car and house for 17 months with a 2-year-old constantly beating on it. Everytime I thought it was gone, it came back to life. Now I've spent 4 months in Iraq without a problem. Blow the dust out every once in a while and have patience. Maybe I just got lucky but I'd do it again.
On a final note, when the remote came up missing, the Mintek website still has the model predominantly listed and all the accessories are still available for replacement. I have a Kodak camera I bought last Christmas (2004) and I can barely find a mention of it on their site.

Amazon.com Product Description
Mintek's MDP-1770KIT offers the convenience of a home-theater component and the versatility of a portable DVD player with all the trimmings, from a tidy tote bag to a car kit and dual headphone setup. The player handles DVD-Video as well as standard and recordable audio CDs, MP3- and JPEG-encoded discs, and Kodak Picture CDs, which offer greater digital-photo viewing flexibility.
Its slender, 1-inch chassis houses a 7-inch widescreen (16:9) TFT liquid-crystal display and a high-capacity rechargeable lithium-ion battery. A remote control simplifies operation, and you can also navigate through discs using the top-panel controls, so you're not tied to the remote.
Audio features also include Dolby Digital passthrough and built-in stereo speakers for headphones-free listening. Alternatively, you can plug in the supplied headphone "Y" adapter and two sets of headphones for viewing with a companion. This handy configuration also spares whoever's up front from having to listen to blaring audio from a kids' movie in the back seat.
What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, remote battery, rechargeable lithium battery, an AC power adapter, a car kit, a travel bag, 2 stereo headsets, a headphone "Y" adapter, an audio/video interconnect, and a user's manual.

Great portable DVD player.......2007-11-30
This portable DVD player has been great for both travel (car) & home use and we've used it for almost 3 years. Both adults & kids have used it heavily & the only thing that has broken is the splitter for the headphones. Easy to use.
No Picture After a Few Uses.......2007-09-05
The dvd player was used less than 10 times then it stopped showing picture while the sound is still good. I'll just have to get another DVD of different brand. This one obviously does not last. Will avoid buying Mintek again in the future.
Customer Service Attrocious.......2007-04-22
We purchased a Mintek MDP1770 portable DVD player for our daugther a little less than two years ago. The product worked okay for a while, but then we had a problem where the unit wouldn't power up whether we were using AC power or battery. We tried contacting the Mintek customer service number several times. Each time we called during business hours and instead of getting a person we were directed to leave a message in the mail box. Twice when we tried doing this, we got a message that the mailbox was full. Finally on another try we left our contact information and a description of the problem and have never heard back from anyone at Mintek. I would strongly advise against purchasing a product from a company that provides this type of shoddy customer support. I can see from some of the other posts in this forum that I am not the only one to share this viewpoint.
Horrible Customer Service.......2007-04-18
This was given to me as a gift. The owner's manual and rechargeable battery pack were missing. The case was the wrong size and the DVD player did not fit. All I wanted to do was exchange the kit for one that was complete. When all the 3 different stores told me they were out of stock and did not know when more were coming in, I wrote the company hoping to get the problem fixed. I never recieved a response and will never buy a MINTEK item again.
Mintek portable DVD player.......2007-03-23

Best portable DVD ever!.......2006-08-11
This is the second portable DVD we have for our toddler. The first one was a blessing. It took a beating through airports, car trips, restaurants, and on the deck and it kept on playing! I purchased a different brand for our 2nd one, but returned it because the sound quality wasn't good. That's why I purchased our second Mintek DVD. It's durable, especially for a toddler, and the sound quality is terrific. It's well worth the price!
great dvd player but...............2005-03-26
i thoroughly enjoy this product and recommend it but after 11 months the on/off switch broke and i am unable to use it. called mintek customer service and they told me a technician would return my call in 24-48 hours. its been 24 hours and no one has called. dont know why you cant just call customer service and speak to a technician. any way, the picture quality is excellent and sound is good but think it could be a little bit better at times.
