It plays just about any video disc format out there, from DVD-Video to DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, and DVD+RW. The player also handles audio CD, VCD/SVCD, and CD-R/RW discs filled with MP3 music or JPEG image files. The front A/V inputs add convenience when you simply want to quickly view those newly recorded videos from your camcorder.
Its full-featured, hi-fi stereo VCR allows you to record your favorite shows while watching a DVD. Auto clock and channel set-up makes recording of your favorite TV shows easy--just pop in a VHS tape and press record. Other VCR features include 8-event timer recording, two record settings (SP/EP), quasi S-VHS playback, four 19-micron video heads (for optimized EP recording), and flash rewind.
Sony's Precision Cinema Progressive technology uses a 12-bit video DAC (digital-to-analog converter) with high-bandwidth, 108 MHz processing to detect image changes at the pixel level, rather than at the level of whole scan lines. That makes this player's picture more faithful to the source--whether film or video--because it uses separate, optimized algorithms to handle different pixel behaviors. Separate algorithms are also used to process the moving and still parts of an image, resulting in sharp backgrounds with moving objects that are free from motion artifacts. The Precision Drive 3 feature provides a mechanism for reading DVDs that are in less than perfect condition, eliminating errors in playback due to imperfect, scratched, or warped discs.
The SLV-D370P offers a digital optical audio ouput, enabling Dolby Digital and DTS surround sound capability. Other connection options include:

You'll get great picture reproduction from DVDs using the three-jack component video (Y/Pb/Pr) output, which provides separate connections for luminance (Y), blue color difference (PB) and red color difference (PR). This results in increased bandwidth for color information, resulting in a more accurate picture with clearer color reproduction and less bleeding than you would get with S-Video or composite (RCA yellow video plug) connections. Component video output is available only for DVD playback.

I needed a minimal unit to play old VHS and DVDs. We have a sophisticated HDD/DVD-recorder Tivo-like device which plays DVDs, its slow to boot, and
too complicated for everyone else in my family to use as a DVD player.
Our old Sony VCR died from old age. We have a Sony DVD player on another TV set.
This unit is not as good as either of the stand-alone units.
What I find most annoying is how slow it is. I'm not talking rewind etc., I'm just talking how long it takes to boot up. It takes 20 seconds to start up.
I find the remote to be a pain to use. I constantly hit the wrong buttons.
I wish I had bought some other VHS/DVD unit.

I read only the first few reviews and they were all great and now that I have the unit, the VCR plays only audio--no video--the DVD plays fine.
I am waiting to hear from the seller as to whether I can return this player.

I received the wrong item. I contacted the seller and returned the item and received a credit on my credit card. I received polite and courtesy service on the return or the product that was sent to me.

Don't buy this. The VCR part worked okay at first, but then stopped working. We got the refurbished product, so the warranty is over.
I won't buy Sony refurbs again. Sony used to stand for good quality, but apparently that attention to detail is slipping.
Piece of junk.......2007-09-11
I bought this DVD player thinking that it had to be good, after all, its a Sony. I couldnt have been more mistaken. Granted, I have had this unit for a while...actually, convently, the warranty just ran out. The DVD portion of the unit wont play anymore. The dvd freezes and says "Disk cannot be played". DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It seems I am not the only one that had this problem...read the others and ignore the few that got the "non-lemons"!!!

I really wish I'd read the user reviews of this product before purchasing, because nowhere in the the product description is it mentioned that there's no tuner. This means that it will only record what the TV or cable box is tuned to. Not good. I had to return the item shortly after hooking it up.
Great VCR/DVD player.......2007-11-08
I'm very happy with this player. We use it all day long. I bought it for my 3 year old daughter's room. Her tv is not hooked up to cable. We just use it for her to watch her videos and DVDs. She can watch Sesame Street tapes all day and we keep them playing. This machine is up to the task. Obviously, we haven't recorded on it, but the picture plays very clearly and the sound is great. Remote is easy to use as well. Wonderful seller. Fast shipping. Would recommend.

When deciding to purchase a dvd/vcr combo the only things that concern me is the picture quality,ease of operation and the price. This inexpensive easy to use unit has an excellent dvd and vcr picture playback quality that is probably second to none. Remember-This is a dvd player and not a dvd recorder. Also keep in mind that this unit does not have a built in tuner. This means that in order for the unit to function you will need a separate tuner(such as a cable box or satellite box) THAT HAS audio/video jack outputs along with a television THAT HAS audio/video jack inputs. I am sure that the unit being tunerless is what makes for a better picture.

Iomega makes good products. I bought two hard drives two work with three different computers, and they work great for the amount of material they store. Really worked to keep our computers from being overwhelmed, and easy to install.

This is an awesome deal for a HD this size and quality. I just got Leopard for my mac, and i had another 500gb usb External drive, so i decided to use that one solely for Time Machine and get this one for everything else. I had no problem installing, works smoothly and quickly. One thing to know is, if you plan on using the Firewire 800 (1394b), and your computer does not have a firewire 800 port, you will need to buy an adapter to switch from 800 to 400, which is definitely worth it. No need to buy cables though, it came with all the necessary cables.

I've had this for over a few weeks now and works flawlessly with the MacBook Pro. The Mac recognized the drive immediately without adding any software. A plus for me. So far so good. Enough space to backup the Mac.

I did a lot of shopping for a hard drive before finally getting this one. It comes with a triple interface, including the firewire 800, which is great with my new mac. It runs super smooth and fast. It is also a good looking hard drive, so its not very noticeable. A great buy, you won't regret it. It's a good investment, too. It will be a good hard drive for a while to come with its fast connection.

This drive is great for backups. It is incredibly quiet and fast, especially when connected using Firewire 800. It worked perfectly for me after installing Leopard, then deciding to revert back to Tiger using the backup I had created on the Iomega drive using Carbon Copy Cloner.
