Customer Reviews:
Bad Customer Service.......2007-12-14
My player has problem with the car power cable. I have to make more than 10 times calls to the customer service and still get no replacement. The first time, they sent a wrong cable and then they promised to send another one. The cable has never been arrived. I finally found out that the cable was out of stock after a few phone calls, but the customer service always tell me that they have sent the cable. RCA has really bad unprofessional customer service, they will 'ping-pong' you to other department until you get fed up and tired. I will never buy a product again with RCA or Thompson label on it.
Buyer Beware.......2007-12-04
I purchased this unit from Best Buy. It was gently used 9 times and began to skip and not read the DVD's. Geek Squad told us it was too expensive to fix and suggested we contact RCA. RCA has had our unit since 9/14/2007 and has not sent the promised replacement unit or made any decision on a refund. I have made numerous phone calls to RCA and Best Buy. Neither company is willing to help. RCA states they do not have supervisors that can assist with customer complaints, Best Buys states I should have purchased the extended warranty. I have many electronics made by RCA and would not ever buy another based on this experience.
Very pleased........2007-11-15
This is a really good product so far. It was very easy to set up. Good size screen for our car. My two girls absolutely love it. The only problem is the volume. It is hard to hear well when on the interstate with the volume all the way up. We haven't tried to use headphones yet.
Very, very nice........2007-11-04
This worked out better than expected. I bought this at the last minute, realizing we may need another form of entertainment on what looked to be a rained out vacation in a cottage. The units came with a case and all of the wires you would need for the multiple inputs/outputs.
The video and audio were great for its size. The linking wires and power cords are long enough to keep out of way in car/mini van. Kids found the controls and setup very easy.
The bonus was the USB capable mp3 player. When the kids were done with the movie, we just popped in my flash drive and listened to the music.
I really have nothing bad to say about DRC630N Portable DVD Players performance or useability, but the only reason I gave it a 4 out of 5 was the lack of a rechargeable battery (really is a 9 out of 10). I could not locate a battery to purchase anywhere. I am also a video buff. It would be great, and worthwhile, to utilize the player or screen to manage my videos on the go. Even on the trails, and mountian tops.
Excellent Portable DVD Entertainment System.......2007-10-22
The lesser known features of this product are what make it shine above other portable/headrest DVD systems. This is my second purchase of this make and model of DVD players. I purchased one set for my wife's car, and soon after bought a set for my car. Two features make this set my favorite choice.
#1. Auto resume - Your child is watching a movie/video and you turn the car off to go into a store. When you come back to the car and turn it on, the DVD player automatically starts up right where you left off. You have no idea how valuable this feature is. Other players make you start all over, watch the FBI warning, wait for previews, then start the movie from the menu, then try to fast forward to where you left off. Try doing that from the driver's seat at 75 mph and your child is screaming because he/she has to wait.
#2. - Excellent Headrest Mounts - This particular set has a very strong, steady base plate with two vertical Velcro straps to secure it to the headrest. Once the base plate is secured, you simply slide the DVD player on. Sliding the DVD player onto the base plate CAN be done at 75 mph from the driver's seat because it slides on very easily and securely.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because connecting the main player to the secondary screen requires a proprietary cable that they supply you with. I broke my first one and had to call the distributor for RCA to send me another one since a third-party replacement is nearly impossible without soldering your own custom cable. However, they were very prompt about shipping the cable to me and it cost me absolutely nothing.
Great product. I highly recommend it above all other portable systems.

Fair at best..........2007-12-22
I just received a Maxtor One Touch III as a backup for my new laptop, running Vista. Physically connecting the drive is easy, the real problem is with the Maxtor software itself. The Maxtor "Easy Manage" screen simply said "Backup Progress" the entire time it was imaging my hard drive. No visual progress indications, and worse, no indication when the task was completed. After an hour of no apparent progress, I finally went into my computer's Control Panel, looked in the Maxtor drive and found the hard drive (C:) files had all been copied. No indication from the Maxtor software screen of the completion of this event. I don't know whether Maxtor still hasn't gotten their act together with regard to the Vista OS, or whether they just have poor software. When you attach the drive and then try to open it from the Maxtor icon in Vista, the drive is not recognized by the software (but Vista "sees" it just fine). In the end, one has to use the "one touch" button on the drive itself to activate and access the onscreen Maxtor control panel to perform tasks with the drive. In this day, when so much software is "plug and play", this system looks like a throwback to the mid-1980's.
The documentation is minimal, and the Maxtor "Easy Manage" panel has two radio buttons labeled "What's New" and "Maxtor Support" to take you to informational websites. However, when tried, both were dead links.
In the end, yes, you can get it to work and back up your hard drive, but you end up doing some work arounds, and those are extremely clunky.
Think twice before buying this drive!.......2007-10-15
I had the One Touch II Mini for a little over one year, then the USB port actually came loose and fell into the drive itself (just after the product came out of warranty of course, so no replacement) rendering it useless. Maxtor/Seagate "offered" to recover the data... for MINIMUM of $700!!
POS drive as far as I'm concerned, with horrible tech support to boot. Now I'm stuck with a paperweight that contains all my backup info. Stay away from this product if you're looking for a reliable drive. I'll never buy from them again.
Big, but small..........2007-07-02
I recently purchased this external HDD, and I've been nothing but pleased with it (execpt for one or two things, more on that in a bit). It's small, light weight, and has tons of storage. It's as great as an HDD can get.
One gripe I have (a minor one, at that) is the lack of Vista drivers on the included software on the HDD itself. This is understandable, however, since this product was probably manufactured when Windows Vista was first released.
Another gripe is about the USB cable. I don't mind the fact that it is a dual USB cord, but it's slightly unweildly, and sort of clumsy to use. The Mini plug is inserted into the HDD, the red USB port half way down the cable is inserted into a USB port, and if you are unable to use the drive due to power limitations, you can plug the other end of the USB cable (black) into a free port. It'd be nice if it were a detachable option, but that makes it less easy to lose, I suppose.
Other than those two minor things, this drive works great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone.
Requires 2 USB ports.......2007-04-17
I am generally satisfied with this drive - it seems to function as advertised. However, at least on my 17" G4 Powerbook, the bus does not provide enough power from one USB port, so there is a second USB cable that you must plug into your other USB port. Not exactly ideal to have all my USB ports used up by one drive, but that's my only complaint (this is the first bus-powered drive I have purchased, so I don't know if this is standard or not).
